The jock on WRXP is...........

I heard another voice this morning that wasn't the voice of Walt. Didn't catch his name, just heard him intro a song.

I heard the other voice as well..sure sounded like former RXP DJ Greg Russ. He is also with Rich Russo on AnythingAnything on the Peak and WDHA.

Someone on the Facebook page thought they heard Greg and was told by Jana to "guess again". Then when someone else thought they heard Brian Phillips, she said they had "good ears". Considering that an article previously stated that Phillips was seen hanging around the building, I wouldn't doubt that it's him. Good move if it's true.

Yes..very cool. Rich Russo also mentioned Phillips on Twitter recently..referring to him as former afternoon DJ, hopefully soon to be again.

Water has done time on Sirius Alt Nation and on the recently folded Goom Radio channels, great to see he found his way back on the air.

I'm not sure if they have Bryan Philips, but that would be cool if they did. He was the first PD of WRXP (New York's Rock Experience) and doing afternoons in the beginning, before the egotistical Leslie Fram was hired as PD, self-annointed herself the morning DJ, hired Pinfield, cluster-f****d the station and.. you know the deal...

I thought Philips was really good, not only as a DJ but also a pretty good PD. On the air, I found him very professional, great sound and delivery, not over the top, good listener interaction, etc. I personally preferred him better than Nik Carter any day, even though Nik is a great DJ too and I also loved him. I guess Philips PD role can be questioned, but I preferred that AAA type mix (I remember hearing Beatled 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' right before Lenny Kravits 'Fly Away', for example). It may have been a little too 'all over the map', but the actual imaging, branding, and sound and overall feel I thought was pretty cool in its own way and I definitely appreciated his creative approach. I also appreciated what Fram was doing music-wise, but some of the imaging, branding, and jock selections (including pinfield and herself in mornings. YUCK.) and imaging, branding, listener interaction, and overall feel of the station was very mediocre and subpar. But anyway, that's all in the past.

I think Emmis is taking it more seriously this time around, which is good. New York airwaves deserve a good alt station like this. I think it's for the most part great... just maybe 5-10 songs I'd get rid of and play some other songs a little bit more, add 5-10 more 90's "golds" and just tweak it a little little tiny bit, but I'd give it a solid B+ grade in my book.

Youre thinking of Bryan Schock who was the first afternoon jock on WRXP. He also programmed the music that everyone complained was so unfocused. His ratings were pretty terrible.Nik Carter had huge afternoon ratings afterBryan Schock left and then Brian Phillips did afternoons after and kept ratings as high maybe higher. Pinfield was there before Fram came in the picture but Emmis is not running 101.9 the company that bought it from them is. They are called Merlin. They bought it and made it news until switching it to what it is now.

You are right, I mistakenly said Schock, not Philips. Pinfield was hired 2 months before Fram. And you are also correct, Merlin bought them (although emmis has a small stake in Merlin), switched it to news, then switched back. You are very good at stating obvious things. A+

Gnarls Barkley and Crazy on New Rock 101.9? That must be a big mistake....

Well, it was a much bigger hit on Alternative than "Gives You Hell" by The All-American Rejects, which for some reason I've heard them play several times. I can think of songs that were far more successful, by artists that are much more associated with the format, that they haven't yet touched.

They seem to be adding artists like Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, 30 Seconds To Mars, some other Green Day titles which is a good sign. It's less repetitive. Although I listen almost all day

No mistake. Their cover of Violent Femmes' "Gone Daddy Gone" is a winner, too (and try out Violent Femmes' cover of "Crazy" for an additional hoot.)

Does anyone know who is doing the imaging and top of the hour ID's? It almost sounds like the voice of Jack-FM.
