The John Holmberg/Jim Sharpe Drinking Game

Everyone needs to stop by the Celtic Curtain at 32nd Street and Cactus Sunday afternoon to watch me outdrink John Holmberg........ here's why:

For the 12 years that I've been back in the Valley, I've known a crazy, little (okay: medium-sized) Irishman by the name of Kevin Mannion.

Kevin was the music intern when I started at the ZONE - which meant he got all the concert tickets and backstage passes he could eat.

But there was no stopping the guy. He would go on to a startlingly bad on-air career and then would become music director of both the ZONE and KMLE, the PD of the ZONE and eventually the PD of the EDGE.

A couple of years ago, he chucked his radio career and opened a pub called the Celtic Curtain. Yup - an Irish/Steelers bar. Not my idea of a perfect bar, but it has become a regular haunt of mine.

Sadly, as of this next week, Kevin will be selling the place. That means we need to celebrate the existence of a bar owned by a guy who once traded concert tickets for a fresh keg of Coors Light in his garage every two weeks.

We need to acknowledge that deep down we wish we owned a bar...

- even if it meant sleeping on a pool table

- even if it meant always having a Jello shot ready in case a hot girl walked in

- even if it meant giving a few free beers to Jim Sharpe because it's too hard to keep track of how many he downs

- even if it meant naming a sandwich after Holmberg when he insisted on pointing out to everyone that they were putting his meat in their mouth

Alright. Enough of the sentimentality (is that a word?) - I will be there around two o'clock Sunday. John, when is your sorry @$$ showin' up?

Best of luck plus you sound great. (Don't leave the pub with a tail light out)

Russ, I sure miss you. (one of the great board ops/football game pickers in the world) what are you doing?

The Irishman in me says hell yes.

The educated man in me says "Steelers?" and just shakes his head in pity.

Good luck, if I'm ever out that way.....
