The John & Jeff Show

WCKG in Chicago has started running John & Jeff here again, they were on for a year or two back in 2000 & 2001, but 'CKG (being the crap station that they are) dumped them and Phil Hendrie who was really funny also. As a matter of fact, if WCKG dumps them again (who knows with that goofy station), I'll break down and get sattelite. I think they are better than Howard at this point!

Anyway, I think John & Jeff have the best syndicated show in America. The pacing is great, their topics are fresh and they dole at the best advice on personal issues.

What do you guys think, they are pretty funny and smart. They have an edge to them. Does anyone have any info on them? Who syndicates them? Are they completely under the Westwood One/Infinity/Viacom/CBS nipple?

I can't remember who syndicates them now, but it's not Westwood One/Infinity/Viacom/CBS. They were at one time syndicated by Fisher Entertainment (Glenn Fisher, who used to syndicate Portland hot talker Rick Emerson).

Their flagship, of course, is KLSX/97.1 Los Angeles. They're on many of the FM talk stations in the country.

What do you think of their show Akronite?

As you can tell, I'm really digging it. I'm not even a third shifter, I've just been staying up past my bedtime to sneek a listen!

They are also broadcast on Sirius on Channel 148 (I think thats it, don't listen myself, but have seen it listed as I've flipped through)

I used to think they did a decent show, then I listened. They're on XM Extreme Talk channel 152 live 10p-3am PT. I guess it's the best, and pretty much only, filler for overnights, like Coast to Coast.

They are actually syndicated by Wilbur Entertainment, which I believe is a branch-off of the Fisher network OA mentioned. I have an old Radio Guide lying around somewhere that has an ad for "FM Talk" on the back, featuring Emerson, J&J, and perhaps another show. That was 2001 or so, but I forget the network whom the ad belonged to.

I believe that'd still have been Fisher at that point.

Here, here's their talk syndication page. Aside from having the rights to "When Radio Was", I don't recognize most of their stuff (aside from Bruce DuMont's Sunday night politics show "Beyond the Beltway).

The contact section gives an address in Santa Cruz, where Glenn Fisher used to be based...so it may indeed be a spin-off of Fisher Entertainment.

As far as the show, I've heard little of it...The memory I have of it was that it sounded like a typical entertainment/hot talk show with two guys.

You're right about Fisher, and now that I think about it, they are a spin-off.

As for their shows, I'd be inclined to believe that a couple of them are likely pay-per-clearance arrangements and not exclusive to Wilbur.

They are VERY funny. I was listening to them way back before they became syndicated. Locally on KLSX they were on from 1:00 am. to 3:00 am in between Ed Tyll and Howard.
I tend to switch stations when the relationship topics come up. I'm fed up with boyfriend/girlfriend issues. I like their crazy topics instead. They had one once where they had agreed to get together on Sunday and they missed each other. One had understood that it meant tomorrow and the other thought it meant next week. So for the next hour they had the callers deciding that " When you say we'll get together on Sunday, do you mean tomorrow, or do you mean a week from Sunday ? Call us now ........" It was a riot.
But I guess you had to be there.

Yeah NEON, they are a riot. I like the magic 8 ball bit. I hate relationship stuff, but at least they use common sense and tell it like it is.

They are on their second tour of duty here in Chicago. Both times they have been on WCKG-FM. WCKG is a crap station, and with Howard leaving and the rest of the station sucking, I can guarantee you John & Jeff will be outta here in the next 90 days.

Here's a question:
I know they are on XM, do they podcast or does KLSX stream them? Any chance of Sirius getting them?

I'm losing alot of sleep listening to them.

KLSX recently started streaming:

They're out of the RadioMat portal, like the other Infinity-owned streaming stations.

It doesn't say whether John & Jeff are included in the stream. Howard Stern is not, but I believe KLSX's other "in-house" syndicated show (PM driver Tom Leykis) is streamed.
