Managed to leave the house a few minutes early this morning. Figured I would pass the Canadian oldies station's lob into the Newark area in time to be where WDEL actually comes in, just outside of Newark, for the 5am newscast.
Well I heard WDEL loud and clear. Of course what I heard was not a couple minutes of local news followed by CBS news. No, I got to hear Coast to Coast AM's "Here is your promo feed for Friday" followed by "Here is your weekend promo feed". The full five minutes was this station feed material.
Hey, with automation, this happens. We all know it. What is disturbing however, is that no one at the station noticed and stepped in to correct it. At 4am, I would understand. Unlike KYW, no one is there. But by 5am, shouldn't someone be on hand whent they go "live and local" at 5:30? Me and my crew were always on hand an hour before we hit the airwaves. I can't believe the WDEL morning crew hadn't shown up yet. And if they had, didn't they care enough about the product to step in. By the way, the 5am problem started at 4:58, when a George Nory/Art Bell spot was on at the same time as one of Dana's commercials was airing.
Let's show some pride in our product folks!
