The KFYI Smackdown

Stopped by the KFYI Smackdown last night. What an embarrassment. The place had barely anyone in it. Even worse the thing sounded lamer than ever. These guys have to be feeling miserable. They are supposedly the "talk for a new generation" and their main competitor is now on FM while they're stuck on AM and people have even stopped coming to what used to be big events.

Sucks to be Smacked.

And Down.

Were they actually in an area in the restaurant that contained paying customers, or were the isolated in the back, away from the public, like Gambo & Ash are when they do remotes from restaurants & bars?

Sucks even more to hear Toaster Talk on FM. Seems the "old generation" still rules KT'R mid-days.

Nurse Jeff and I much prefer a monthly KFY~Eye Smackdown to six hours a day of "..is it raining where you are?" We're counting the days until KT'R's perennial groaner "The 12 Days of Christmas". Wonder what role Pat McBland will be playing this year?

[EDIT]

Sure toaster talk sucks, but it is still better toaster talk on FM than syndicated programming on AM. Stop under a bridge for a minute and listen to KTAR's afternoon news. Then flip over to 550. Oh wait, you can't because you can't hear the damn thing.

Easy boys. I wouldn't waste your time trying to talk sense into Akbar. If anything, have pitty on him. [EDIT] He's clearly on the CC payroll. They're lucky to have him. These days KFYI is surely thanking their lucky stars they have a doctor on staff. And, now that KT'R is no longer their b**** they've got to be glad [EDIT]was able to step into that role. ;D

Much more entertaining with the edits, than the original. So much left to the imagination!

Coming up next, The McBland Group live from Bill Johnson's Big Apple

Join Patty and his deep thinkers

Jeff Munn
Rick D'Amico
Mayor Phil Gordon
Chef Raz Kazimerez
Grant Woods
Ned Foster
and Patti Hitchcock

The smackdown will consist of:

Who do we love more, the Suns or Diamondbacks (listen to both on KTAR)
A Wallace and Ladmo retrospective (including, a tribute to Pat)
What is your favorite entree at Bill Johnson's Big Apple
How great is Jerry Colangelo?
Ned's wacky traffic stories
Grant Woods gets a woody
Mayor Gordon's praises light rail
Is KTAR great in FM, or what?

Come on down, we have the early bird dinner starting at 3:30 with the senior citizen discount!

Did you hear the McBland group today?

Scintilatting talk with Jeff Munn, boy howdy.

Start dusting off them awards, the TAR pit is gonna win for their insightful and hard hitting shows.

You don't read me much, I have equal dislike for most of KFYI, its become a toothless lion, dull, predictable and very non-edgy or listenable.

Did anyone go to the Smackdown? I only got the chance to hear a little bit of it. Barry Young finally appeared! I think Jacobs said this was "their last Smackdown." Is KFYI discontinuing it?

Maybe full-blown remotes are now verboten in the cut-to-the-bone
2007 budget at Cheap Channel.

Was Crummey actually in person or did he fake it from El-Lay?

Yeah, rockjock, we know... FM... freeway underpasses... yadda yadda same thing every time blah blah blah

Same thing every time, huh? Or maybe I said it once, and you're replying to a post from two months ago. And I thought Akbar was [EDIT]

Still FAR more entertaining than Ded Simons & Heidi on News 92~three, where Hip-Hop used to live. Nice The Nearly Bald One could show up. Not so nice he was his usual pompous self. But what do you expect from the guy who spells TEAM with an I?

That is "talk for a new generation." If you're a con-servative.

Well maybe a number of people are repeating the same thing, but I think we know... KFYI doesn't come in under a bridge. Add the homeless to KTAR's demos to dominate.

We realize this is a KFWhyEye thread, but more and more Nurse Jeff and I are being turned off by the overly produced sound of News 92~three, where Hip-Hop used to live.

Turnover has long been a problem for KT'R, now we're being reminded every five minutes of how great FM is, they're "un-cut" (whatever that means), and everywhere...NOW! The news blocks are especially annoying as there is a sounder for everything. Enough, already!

TMISU have 30 days and counting to move whatever listeners remain on 6~twenty to FM. The Nurse and I think those AM listeners will migrate to KFWhyEye, making 5~fifty even more Number One-est.

Wrong. 550 already has all the conservative talkers and their groupies. 620 groupies are not neocons and never will be.

I would be one of those if KFYI was more listenable. Jacobs is irritating; Crummy is crummy (last night he admitted he didn't know where Home Depot was on East Thomas), Young is boring, and his sound effects are childish. I'm tired of Rush, and Hannity spends too much time trying to get guests to answer his questions. ("Yes or No"?). And forget the musical chair at 7 to 11 p.m.

I doubt I will ever listen to KT'R on FM......when I listen to talk it is usually a battery powered portable with 10 station preset buttons, so that I can switch immediately to something else. Having to change bands will be an annoyance.

Good time for KKNT, KXAM and KFNX to improve their programming.

When hasn't it been a good time for KFNX to improve their programming.

That sounds good on other stations like CC blowtorches WLW, WTAM, WHAS, et al, but as usual with Bonneville (or the Indianapolis braintrust that preceded them), they have to "tone it down" and make it sound hokey.
