The Kid Rock song

I have had the misfortune of hearing the Kid Rock song that samples Werewolves Of London by Warren Zevon and has it's cliched call out lines. This song is terrible! Absolutely pathetic. While never a huge fan of Kid Rock I had respect for the man since he incorporated some down home country into his style. The duet with Sheryl Crow is also a classic in my opinion. But, this one for sure is terrible. It is cliched and further brings down and stereotypes the rural folks of America.

I like the song, but I am just one opinion.

The good news for you is because the lyrics are summer related, the song will begin to fade pretty quickly after Labor Day weekend.

Regardless, it is going down for matching "Picture" as Kid Rock's biggest mainstream hit. #5 and still climbing on CHR and Hot AC.

I am with you 100% on this one. I am a PD in Alabama and the folks down here eat it up because the music sounds like "Sweet Home Alabama" and he mentions that song in the chorus. It leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth, but it lit up our phones this summer. This one definitely has a short life, though; as the other poster said Labor Day will shut this song down just like the pools.

It's almost as if somebody challenged Kid Rock to see how many cliches he could put in a song. The lyrics are a rip off of Kenny Chesney and the music is a rip off of Zevon and Skynyrd. One of the more famous 'poser' songs of the decade. I like British website Digital Spy's review of the song: "dumb, lazy and as classy as spending Friday night drinking own brand cider outside your local Tesco's."

The song talks about being a kid in the Summer of 1989. In the Hot AC format, that's the year a 37 yr old woman graduated high school. Even if the lyrics are cheesy/poser/etc, it helps the demo to remember a (hopefully) fun time in their life...even if they weren't "smoking funny things." ;)

When talking about the Hot AC format, it's huge, regardless of what anyone on this board thinks of it!!

Agreed. I hate it but you better believe it's an A right now!!

Songs like this are why they invented the studio monitor volume knob...

I actually don't dislike this one as much as I did "Picture." The latter was one of those multi-format hits that stayed on the charts for the better part of a year, and there was just no getting away from it no matter where you tuned. And this was doubly true for the video as well! ::)

As for "All Summer Long," I seriously doubt there were very many 18-year-olds in northern Michigan listening to "Sweet Home Alabama"! ::) Particularly in 1989! A local radio announcer here in Nashville once said that Kid Rock must've wished that he had grown up in west Tennessee! Since I am from west Tennessee, I kinda resented that!

And no one has said this, but doesn't the drumbeat from "All Summer Long" sound suspiciously like it might have been lifted from Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean"?

I haven't noticed that it sounds like Billie Jean, but I'll make sure to pay attention the next a bajillion times it comes up.

I like the tune...but it wears fast (fortunately, I do a morning show, so love that it adds tempo).
