The KiddChris Show taking over AMs on WEBN

"Shock Jock" KiddChris will be taking over the 6-10a slot on WEBN. KiddChris is a regular contributor to the Howard Stern show. His actual start yet to be determined. This is according to his facebook page.

Judging by his facebook bio, he hasn't lasted very long wherever he goes. What makes 'EBN think he'll succeed here.

I can't say I'll tune in, I'll stick to Fin and Mistress Bridget on 96ROCK.

I heard Kidd Chris call into Howard Stern this morning and said Clear Channel moved his show to Cincinnati along with his old boss. Howard said that Cincinnati is a better radio market than Atlanta and that WEBN is a legendary rock station. He has been friends with Kidd Chris since 2003. I like it when Stern talks about the radio business.

I agree, The ratings were going up, Why the sudden change? Dumb move if you ask me unless they are really wanting to kill the station all together as stated in the above post.

Microbob do you have some morning show numbers you can share? Just because the overall 6+ number is up doesn't mean the morning show was performing. It's quite possible that the rest of the station was outperforming mornings. Unless you have all of the information, you can't make a competent analysis.

I don't have any numbers, just looking at the latest overall PPM station rankings. I suppose that the rest of the station outside of mornings could have boosted the ratings, but that usually is not common, as morning drive carry the station as most listening occurs between those hours. Mark and Mo were only with the station for 7 1/2 months as well.

My question is will Clear Channel give Kidd Chris more time than that to build an audience?

Microbob what you say is not necessarily true at all. Many times I've seen morning shows underperform the rest of the station. That's why they get replaced. You're also forgetting that a bump in share could be attributed to the Bengals on FM. If Mark and Month were working, they'd still be there.

Hello-
While I have not seen the PPM numbers for what has turned out to be an "interim" morning show, the reality of PPM in the industry as a whole, shows morning CUMEs are no longer usually the largest for most stations irrespective of format. Usually CUME peaks in afternoons for stations even for those with the "biggest" morning shows. It's more about PPM panelists behavior than what an audience may be doing in reality. More and more if an AM show is at least competitive in key target demos from a share (and rating) standpoint then it can be considered successful. For a lot stations morning shows are more about image and setting the tone for a station and less about out performing the rest of the day. It will be interesting to hear what the contributers on this board have to say once the show goes on the air. I'm not in the market but from what I've gleaned by the various posts on the Cincy board, there seems to be a better than average knowledge of the industry compared to many markets.

I don't. Advertisers aren't going to pay twice for WLW. Also, CC would be inundated with WEBN listeners. Look at Chicago and NYC. Don't mess with change, especially this market. And that's advise that has stayed consistent since the 50's in this town. Cincy folk don't like change.

And ToddyO it's really even less about the fear of change than it is about dollars. WEBN still produces significant revenue, despite a drop in share. The ridiculous suggestion from some on this board that WKFS and WEBN should swap signals or WEBN should change format ignores that. WEBN is bringing in much more money than WKFS. Ratings matter less than revenue. You can have a 1 share AM Sports station that makes lots of money, but a Smooth Jazz FM with a 5 share that has to flip because they can't sell it. (The WAVE, anyone?)

There is a growing trend of rock stations like WEBN disappearing from FM all across the country. The fact that WEBN has been Rock for 45 years tells you a lot about Cincinnati and it's dislike of change, but eventually it will happen as most Rock Radio listeners have moved on to IPODS,Internet and Satellite Radio.

Actually, it shows that WEBN is a strong brand. Just like Q95/Indy, WDVE/Pittsburgh, WMMR/Phadelphia, KFOG/San Francisco. What is this trend you are talking about? Despite the myths, young people still use radio. Check the cumes in all markets. There are still plenty of people who don't want to work to be entertained. They like having other people entertain them.

How many of these other Rock stations are playing new artists and not songs and groups that are 20 + years old? I can't see the Rock format lasting unless it breaks new music and bring and back some coolness to Rock radio. I don't see younger people listening to Radio for their music fix. Radio has lost its ability to be The Cool Thing like WEBN was in its prime in the 70's and 80's when they had The Album Project and every Kid copied the Frog Logo on the back of desks in High School as well as wearing their cool looking T-Shirts.

Maybe the will be around to celebrate the 50th year on the air here, Who Knows if they will or not that's the question.

Getting back on topic; Did anybody catch KiddChris and company punking shows on other stations yesterday? I'm in Canton, and at least four calls mentioning Chris and/or WEBN were made to news/talker WHBC/1480's midday talk program. Curious to see if this little stunt targetted any stations in Cincy.

I see 102.7 WLW sometime in 2013.

Would not be surprised if this happened. Clear Channel has already made WEBN the flagship FM station for Bengals broadcasts when they used to be on WLW....

There is a big difference between QUANTITY of your programming and the QUALITY of your programming. While some stations are questionable... in today's markets it seems that CRAP is selling out and that is what is being carried on both the FM and AM dial. Radio back in the day was more entertaining then it is today. Now it's all pre-packaged from one city by a clear channel suit and tie and emailed over the internet-so 15 or 20 markets can hear the same crap that passes for "radio entertainment".... ??? ::) :-[ :-\

Sorry, if I worked for Clear Channel- in some regards I would be ashamed to be associated with them; they have really destroyed the radio market in the states....

Out of the stations you listed- 2 of them are Clear Channel Stations, 1 of them is Greater Media, and 1 is owned by Cumulus... that says it all right there. But hey- if you like Mediocrity in your radio- all the more power to you.
