I was in a store last weekend & heard 106.1 playing all Michael Jackson all weekend. This reminded me of a weekend gimick 106.1 tried in April 1984 at the height of Michael Jackson's popularity, the brainchild of well-traveled PD Bobby Rich, then at WWSH, the "NO Michael Jackson Weekend" No MJ songs from Friday 6pm to Monday morning, with the promise if anyone 'slipped up' the first caller would win $5000 and the first caller when it ended Monday won $1000. Rich also had a "No Bee Gees" weekend at WXLO in New York in 1978. He said it was 'meant as a complement...we're giving him a chance to rest. The man is tired. We play him at least once an hour".
