The KNCT mystery

Does anyone have much knowledge on KNCT? It puts a very good signal into north austin and Round Rock areas. It normally plays easy listening during the day and some classical programming at night. To my knowledge, they don't have any NPR affiliation--im wondering what is the point? How many people in Central Texas are interested in Easy Listening? I guess since they are member supported they don't really care, but someone must have an interest to help pay their bills....It seems to me that signal (pretty much covering Austin to north of Waco) could be put to better use.

Whats the mystery? It's licensed to Central Texas College in Kileen. They have the only 'Easy Listening' programming in the area. Why would they need NPR, since KUT's coverage overlaps? Besides, where else are ya gonna get Bill Hecke's weather forecasts? I think you could go up and down the dial and find bigger wastes of electricty than 91.3.

They got a translator down south here on 99.9 K260AB every now and then you'll hear KZLV inside it on the station, gues they just use a regular antenna to pick it up on there? I have mine going to San antonio, so I pick up KZLV a lot better than KNCT.

I'm glad that there are stations, like KNCT, that provide an alternative. What a refreshing change-of-pace it is to the disgusting, regugitant bile of so many of the corporate-owned cookie-cutter music formats.

That's Gil Garcia's little 10 watter. He's got it set up at his place outside Lockhart. It used to pick up 102 from Houston. Glad to hear it's still on the air.
