The Knicks will be on WBLS tomorrow

According to Newsday the Knick game starting at 12 noon tomorrow will be broadcast on WBLS while the Jet game starting at 1 PM will be on ESPN radio. Is this the first time a sporting event ever aired on WBLS? I am surprised that 1560 AM is not being used as the overflow station keeping both games on Disney owned stations.

It is uncommon when the Knicks and Jets conflict, but if the NHL ever starts to play what will happen when there are Knick-Ranger conflicts which are quite common. Will WBLS be the overflow station?

Over the past few years, the overflow stations for ESPN NY game broadcasts have been 1130, 970, 1600 (rarely), 570 (one Rangers game) and 1560 (years ago).
They previously used 770 a lot, but since the Cumulus takeover there's been nothing there (outside of the usual "exclusive to 770" Army football and Seton Hall basketball).

WFAN has recently used 970, 1130 and 1190 (previously NJ Nets) for spillover games + 101.1 and 880 (preseason Giants).
Years ago they also used 1050 (WEVD days/pre-ESPN), 770, even 1230 WFAS (spring 1990 Knicks games), 92.3 (KRock days) + 102.7 (Sports Guys morning show days + preseason Giants games).

With ESPN Radio FM-only now here, I'm sure they wanted to have the game on FM somewhere. But yeah, where would the Rangers go if the NHL starts again?

I can't say for sure; depends on whether ESPN Radio can (or wants to) put the conflicting Rangers/Knicks games on their usual spillover channels (970 AM, 1130 AM, a couple others rarely such as 1560). Too early to tell if this is a one-off or if ESPN Radio NY has struck up a more permanent relationship with the new owners of WBLS (YMF Media). Interesting to note that there was no conflicting programming on 1130 or 970 today that would have prevented ESPN/Knicks/MSG Radio Network from using those channels. Possibly one or the other will have a 4pm NFL game from Compass Media Networks (Saints@Raiders) or a Dial Global contest. (Being as the NY Giants are off this week, WFAN has Nets@Kings at 6pm.)

Future possible conflict dates:
12/2/12 Sun. Cardinals@Jets 1pm vs. Suns@Knicks Noon
12/17/12 Mon. Jets@Titans 8:30pm vs. Rockets@Knicks 7:30pm
12/23/12 Sun. Chargers@Jets 8:20pm vs. Timberwolves@Knicks 5pm
(Jets pregame show usually runs 2 hours; could be shrunk to fit or run "online only" until Knicks postgame ends.)

The 12/23 Chargers/Jets game has a very good chance of being flexed out of Sunday evening on NBC to Sunday afternoon being as both teams are fading from playoff contention. A 1pm start would avoid conflict, although NY Giants@Ravens is tentatively scheduled for 1pm; possibly that game (amongst others) could move to the nighttime slot. We'll know by Tue. 12/11, I believe.

Is it possible that, as part of the deal effectively sending some of the 98.7 programming to 107.5 for ESPN 1050 going to 98.7, that 107.5 could be used for sports overflow when 98.7 has Jets games?

And both Arizona teams will probably pull off victories against both New York teams, too.

This is off-topic, but it's an odd coincidence (I assume) that two Phoenix sports teams will be playing in New York an hour apart.

Indeed, Suns-Knicks is on WBLS Sun. 12/2 - pregame 11:30am, game from Noon-2:30, postgame from 2:30-3pm.

Answering DToTheJ's question about possible dealings between ESPN/YMF when the original deal for KissFM + its intellectual property went down, I wouldn't be surprised if sports overflow on WBLS was part of the deal...makes sense now given what was involved with the sale to YMF + LMA with Emmis.

If the NHL ever plays this season, would overflow Rangers' games go to WBLS? :)
