The Kross Tulsa

I just noticed today that the Kross (KCXR 100.3 Tulsa) is playing nothing but classic christian albums.

Looks like the end of another great Christian station for youth.

What do you think Stevens will do now with the 100.3 frequency?

They just flipped it.

3pm Central.

Your Home of Christian music...100.3 KXOJ, Muskogee.

First 4 songs:

1. Rich Mullins - Sing Your Praise to the Lord
2. The Fray - How To Save a Life
3. Matt Kearney - Nothing left to lose.
4. Jeremy Camp - This Man

Same Voice Guy as KXOJ, Tulsa. Jeff Collins.

Apparently a localized version of KXOJ, Tulsa...for Muskogee.

My guess is that they'll have the same jocks as KXOJ...but tracked.

I know that Stevens did this for good reasons, not the smallest of which was finances. They took a risk with the Kross, and for that I commend them.

With that said, I find myself today with a renewed concern for the future of youth-oriented Christian radio. In the past year, the formats of Christian CHR and Rock have lost at least 3 stations:

KTSL Spokane (now playing straight Christian AC)
WQFL Rockford (also played almost all AC)
and now, KCXR, The Kross.

I feel like a doomsayer, but will all Christian music radio be AC in the future? Is the 35-45 year old soccer mom the only person that is a profitable target for Christian radio? Sadly, this may be true.

I wish I knew how to attract more young people to listen to Christian radio. It's not enough just to play the music with the style that young people relate to (like hard rock and hip-hop). Stations like that took a big risk and really played music with a style young people are in tune with (like the Kross) are gone or dying. It seems like we somehow have to break the "uncool" factor that still surrounds Christian radio in order to get more young people to believe in our product.

Thoughts?

*sigh*

My prayers with Scott and everyone who worked their hardest to make The Kross what it was. Sad to see another progressive station fade away.
