The Kuhner Report - Saturday Edition

If not, then maybe they should consider turning in their license.

Why do you keep putting words in their mouth? They give the people of Boston the chance to hear Rush, Hannity, and Beck. Isn't that worth anything to the people of Boston? Obviously some people listen, because they post here. Is it perfect? No. But it's there. If they turned in the license, you might not hear Rush, Hannity, and Beck.

iHeart (it was Clear Channel back then) spent some serious cash to buy that 1200 signal and get its power upped to 50,000 watts. They must've envisioned some payback for what they were doing, no?

They paid $10 million for it after a failed sale for $14 million by Fairchild fell through. So they got it at a discount. They already had the 50 kw grant, and Clear re engineered it a bit better with fewer towers. But it is an awfully tight pattern.

And at that time, it was worth that. But then, as you said, they got a better signal on a better frequency.

Even though his current contract is for a lot less money (it's said, actual figure undisclosed),Rush was worth enough to Clear Channel/iHeart/Premiere that from 2008, he got $50M per year for 8 years. All those close to 600 stations that aired his show along with Hannity, etc--making big bucks with syndication.

The model was one or two local shows (WXKS had Katz and Severin) and the rest syndicated.
Somehow they made money (not much in Boston but half decent elsewhere) Now having 680 and 1030 helps them.
.So 1200 can add to the picture by clearing those syndie shows
while RKO has Kuhner, VB and Carr (Howie regional though self syndicated) and BZ has Rea.
In Pittsburgh iHR took their Premiere talk off
WPGB 104.7 in favor of country but found a local station WJAS 1320 to run the talk shows--and even though iHR doesn't own them, the station is housed in the iHR building in GreenTree.
Multiply all the iHeart talkers nationwide and the money is half decent.Admittedly mostly on AM though you have Web listeners too.

All part of the same iHeart model used for
music stations--some national shows like
Bobby Bones at country stations like The Bull
and some local.Homogenous presentations
(Websites, contests, features etc) Boston has the talk spread over 3 stations, with WBZ doing mostly news but also Rea.The national shows
when all those stations are added up (including on stations not owned by iHR) do make some money. Boston at least does embrace some local talk. But iHR now skimps on that on the
overnight with rerun news on WBZ.

The station is all syndicated. There is "no one from the station."

Sooooo...sending a letter to Cabot Road for the general manager of the station is futile? Who works on Cabot Road, anyone? Or is it just an empty lot? No wonder no one responds to vm, emails, pm.....:)

There is a staff at that location, but many may be working from home and not read traditional mail for long periods of time.

Sooo, there's no point in sending snail mail.....secondly....no one responds to emails, pms from FB or pms from Twitter.....they have an active Twitter account because they post a couple of times a day....someone is managing that account, but, never responds to pms....I sent them a pm in January and again in March, no response...I left vm back in Feb, no response, I've sent an email or two, no response, no response to FB pms, someone is managing their FB page but they never respond either.....and....worse yet....they never resolve the ongoing issue....first PM was in January...it's now August, still no response and no resolution to issue.

Words in whose mouth?

Yes, I like Rush; can't really take Beck or Hannity. Sure, some people listen, but I'll bet AM 1200's ratings/shares (whatever the correct "in" term is) aren't so great.

And from what I've read elsewhere, iHeart has been known to make deals with other stations in a market to carry their programs when they need their own station for something more profitable, so turning off the AM 1200 signal (about which management doesn't/can't give a crap about) might not have an adverse effect on anyone's day, and maybe the new Premier carrier(s) - you may need more than one to cover the area adequately - would actually care about their on-air presence.

Pandemic notwithstanding, the on-air sloppiness is not an insurmountable problem to resolve.

We'll have to see if they put the Black Information Network on 1200. By the way from 2006 to 2011, WILD 1090 ran black talk with hosts like Michael Eric Dyson, Warren Ballentine, and Rev Al Sharpton plus local Jimmy Myers. The Tom Joyner Morning Show had some talk along with Urban AC.

Salem's conservative talk stations feature Larry Elder. Herman Cain, who recently passed away, did a show (heard a bit of it on WLOB when I was in Portland ME).
Lovell Dyett was on WBZ for almost 40 years. He passed away in 2012 and had used to
end his show by quoting Duke Ellington: I love you, I love you madly.
And: spend your time wisely. It's the only money you have.

They offered Rush to WMEX around 2014-2015 but were turned down.Cost too much.

During the first hour of the Crazy Kuhner Report this morning, Monday August 24th, RKO was running the Weather Channel Forecast from last Friday. I guess it was nice to know the forecast was correct, we did get those scattered thunder showers yesterday.

Kuhner has no idea how to follow the format while broadcasting from his home. During the entire show he will take a call for about 20 seconds and they say I am sorry I have to go to a traffic report or a hard break and ask the caller to hang on. After the break, he will either start bloviating or repeat exactly what the caller was saying and then go back to the call. It sound so bush league.

I stopped listening to him over 8 years ago....couldn't take the unprofessionalism, couldn't take the unpreparedness, couldn't take the stupid voices, the hysterical laughter and "see what I have to put up with, a man of my education"..."the phone lines are blazing", "we're going national baby", etc etc etc, and the way he treated libs..."go back on your rmeds" he wouldn't let them get a word in edge wise.....at least when "Sandy" Nancy Shack Morrison was on MEX she'd let them have their say and then she'd comment, kuhner just kept interrupting and insulting them and...I being a female noticed he's a beta, just like howie (there used to be audio of howie's wife calling into the show ripping him from one end to the other)! Also, 8 or 9 years ago, whenever it was that he went from 12-3 back to 6am, he actually blamed his "bambinos" for his lack of preparedness and promised that when he went back to 6am he'd be prepared....I listened for about 2 weeks and still heard the same crap...you could tell he listened to Rush the day before (as many do) because he'd repeat verbatim what rush said and then...if what rush said came true, kuhner would actually take credit for it...at least with howie, he admits that rush said so and so and doesn't take credit for it....I got thrown off FB for going against their so called "community standards" but I digress...anyway, I was in a group and some of the posters used to say how kuhner claimed that "Trump's people" listen to his show....lmao....notice kuhner wasn't anywhere near Trump back in 2016....there are photos of howie on Trump's plane, photos/video of howie introducing Trump in NH...now, if howie said "Trump's people" listen to his show, I'd find that a little more believable....has kuhner ever had Trump on his show? Hell, the morning sports guy on Talk1200 had Trump on his show last week...kuhner is a bit (a large bit) of a drama queen!

As Crazy Kuhner would say, Tired Of It ALL you are on fire, drop the mic. I listen to Kuhner for the pure comedic value of the show, it is similar to watching reruns of Lost In Space, it is so bad it is funny.

My 3 favorite moments of the show are:

1. Kuhners interview with the My Pillow guy Mike Lindell, during the RNC Convention 4 years ago. (Lindell has found a cure for Covid 19. Soon, he will be including it with every purchase of his Giza Dream Sheets. ) Lindell is a recovered drug addict whose crack cocaine problem was so bad that the two dealers he bought from staged an intervention because they liked the guy and knew he would be dead soon if he didn't get help. During the interview, Kuhner was singing the praises of the MY Pillow and wanted to know what makes the pillow so good and then asked Lindell what he secret was, what do you Mike do you put Crack Cocaine in the pillow?

2. After Kuhner lost the morning show and moved to 12-3 he announced that the move was made because the Kuhner Report was going national and took congratulatory calls for the next 7 days. Entercom never cleared him on any of any their stations.

3. During former Ch. 5 anchor Heather Unruh's testimony during the Kevin Spacey trial last summer , it took Kuhner about 45 minutes to figure out how to pronounce her name. He claimed that following her testimony, Ch. 5 fired Unruh. During the entire segment he asked callers what they made of the fact that Ch. 5 fired Unruh and claimed to have sources inside Ch. 5. that told him Ch. 5 was unhappy with her testimony. The only problem was Uruh was not fired from Ch. 5, she resigned in 2016 and was allowed to announce she was leaving the station before the end of her last newscast.

What I love most about Krazy K000nah is how he turns every conversation into some sort of experience about himself.

Burning Miracle Mile in Chicago? He shopped there once upon a time.

Antifi occupying Portland? He visited there once interviewing for some high-level executive media position.

Church burning in Alabama by the KKK? He attended that same church as a child! OMG!

Police shooting in Wisconsin? His best friends' uncle's cousins' first-wife's ex lover is a personal friend of the victim!

K000nah is like chicken man! He's everywhere! He's everywhere!

I will say, at least K000nah is more entertaining than VB, who is about as exciting as a Twinkee.

LOL, yes! I remember how kuhner does that and how when a caller says something that he obviously never thought of, he says, oh yes, I was just thinking that to myself...(how convenient!)

What I find amusing is that he claimed Trump's "people" listen to his show....when was the last time he had Trump on his show? The morning sports guy on Talk1200 had Trump on his show two weeks ago....maybe Trump's "people" have figured out how much of a drama queen kuhner is and it wouldn't be worth Trump's time! :)

I think I've listened to a total of 3 seconds, give or take, of VB's show....

For those of you listening to and concerned about technical issues on WRKO or Talk1200 I would like to ask that you reach out to me at this email:

[email protected]

I've recently started working in a position to look at the automation for these stations and I would like to try and fix what issues that I can. Sometimes there are issues that we don't realize are happening, so if you can point out any and let me know what times they are happening, in as much detail as you can, it would be a great help. I've been reading through this thread a bit and I know about the double audio issues, as you have mentioned, on Talk1200. I don't have any say on the content we put out so don't ask me about that but any technical issues or incorrect things playing please send my way.

WOW....thank you....FINALLY someone responds! The main issue is the constant double airing....two newscasts at the same time at the top of the hour mainly on weekends, but, I've noticed it's starting to spill over into weekdays.....this thing with the double airing has been going on for months, it makes it very difficult to listen.....thank you for any help you can provide!

GOP losing Senate candidate Shiva Ayyadurai lost by 50,000 votes but claims voter fraud. He cursed out the primary's winning candidate, Kevin O'Connor as well as Gov Baker with the F word and also criticized Carr and Kuhner.

"Every knock, a boost" the hosts probably feel.
Free publicity.

I think it was around 2003 when Doug Goudie left WRKO to go to Ch 25. I thought, well he's off to TV but who knows--could eventually get back to radio.
Cox, owners of 25, let him go and thankfully for him, he got back to radio, back at WRKO.
