KNX, the last radio station with studios in Hollywood, moves to Wilshire Blvd. tomorrow night. Nice article by the Times.
______________

I know times change and you must move on and modernize, but it's too bad Columbia Square will be demolished. BTW, what's on the site of the original
NBC Radio City in Hollywood?

An old Home Savings & Loan building (the kind that looks like something out of the Roman empire, with the mural), although it's a Washington Mutual since the merger several years back.
______________

This is just sad.

When the old KFI studios got demolished by LA City Schools without any heed given to the community or preservationists, I nearly cried. When the KMPC building went away, it was another loss. When CBS razes this building, it'll be a complete loss.

California (and big business) has no sense of its history. But neither does radio, so I guess it all fits together.

Columbia Square. Don't they have a Square to Spare?

It seemed when another Poster had brought this up a couple Months back, all he wanted to do was argue. In fact most of his Posts were argument based. With that in mind Doc, I had a chance to visit Columbia Square once, and will never forget it. From the KNX News Presenters wearing White Shirts & Ties, running their own Board, to the Operation of KNXT, Channel 2, once known as KNX2 Channel T!. And also seeing KODJ, and all the massive History throughout the Building. It was neat seeing the letters Changing on the outside of the Building over the Years. This is truly a sad Day for Hollywood.

Re: Columbia Square. Don't they have a Square to Spare?

Sad day for the whole industry.

The last time I was there was about a year ago. The engineering staff were hustling because a small earthquake had opened up a water pipe and flooded KNX's Orange County Bureau; there were also inspectors everywhere checking Columbia Square's structural integrity. A not-very-ordinary day! And through it all, these guys - engineers and airstaff both - were completely unaffected, doing their jobs like the pros they are.

It's a great piece of American history we're losing here, not just broadcasting history.

Don't give up yet

Don't just give up, send emails or (gasp) snail mail to Villaraigosa and the LA Conservancy, not just once but a coupla times. Show them there's interest in the history of the building.

I worked there for 5 years in the 80s, it was the coolest place. But a very inefficient place to try and make TV.

It's a classless decision by Infinity not to take
George's idea more seriously. This is a truly historic
building for 3 different reasons.

1) Radio HQ for CBS
2) KNX Home for 80 years
3) The building was designed in the Moderne Streamlined style.

Watch out 5515 Melrose may be next. People will save some piece
of crap falling down shack for politicaly correct reasons, but
they don't seem to give a s---- for classic buildings of the
Hollywood era.
