The "Last Man Standing" Thread

I think Tim Allen is popular enough that you could pretty much throw him in any show and it would be successful.

I think that may be true but only for a short time. At issue is that his character has already been played in several previous sitcoms by others. Unless Tim can keep this one fresh and somehow a bit unique I fear its life will be short.

From the first two episodes I felt the wife character was weak with obvious comparisons to "Jill Taylor". The three girls were OK, nothing spectacular, and Tim was his usual self. I realize his ignorance of common technology and terms is a source for humor but it isn't too realistic in this day and age.

Has ABC made a commitment beyond the original seven episodes????????..........if not we are on a death watch here.

i think tim allen was at his best before the home improvments.he was at his best doing his stand up comedy.

the occasional appearence on HBO or SHOWTIME was better then a full season of home impprovments.and i liked home improvments.

then i am the kind of guy who thinks an entertaner often is best on his way up then when he becomes a star.they are more hungry to do their best then usually.

I haven't given this show a chance. But, I might have tuned it if it was Home Improvement in a spinoff some 12 years later with atleast Patricia Richardson as wife, and Richard Karn as colleague/friend, and maybe one son a regular on the show, and married with kids, making Tim and Jill, grandparents.

Tim Allen as parent/family man, to young children/teens, has already been done.

I have no plans to watch it.

You needed to announce this?

Even worse, you needed to respond.

Your response to my response is helping things right along, though.

;)

I haven't seen the show so I can't comment on its quality.
However, I don't think it will reach the ratings heights of
"Home Improvement" simply because it's on against "NCIS,"
currently the number-two-rated show, unless ABC moves it,
but I think they'll be happy if the ratings show it to be acceptable
counterprogramming to Mark Harmon & Co.

Not with girls. And not with a boss he sees daily, or a bumbling idiot sidekick. In "Home Improvement" he was the bumbling idiot and the sidekick had brains.

I like his macho attitude, even though I'm not particularly macho myself. It reminds me of Jeff on "Rules of Engagement", who has no kids (though a surrogate is now pregnant) and isn't nearly as supportive of his wife.

I watched it, doubt I'll watch it again. These shows where everybody is smarter than dad are really lame.
Then you must not like most sitcoms.

"The Simpsons", "Family Guy", "American Dad", "The Cleveland Show", "Modern Family", "Raising Hope" (on that show everyone is smarter than BOTH dads) ...

The one exception I can think of is "The Middle". That show has a dad who is halfway intelligent.

5 minutes and I turned the channel. Tim Allen is not the problem, Nancy Travis is. I haven't liked her ever since she replaced Terry Farrell on Becker.

I watched last night and didn't think that episode was as good as the first. The only reason I'll probably continue watching is because nothing else is on during that time slot. I think the funniest guy on the show is Tim's boss at the store - Hecotor Elizondo.

I finally watched last weeks and this weeks epsiodes. The show is alright. It seems just the opposite of Home Improvment. Instead of 3 boys, their are 3 girls. And he works in a Bass Pro Shop type job. One thing I am surprised is that one of the daughters has a baby. As we haven't really seen that in a sitcom before.

I'm seeing him on My Network on "Monk" reruns as the psychiatrist. He was a figment of Monk's imagination on a submarine.

I liked her on "Hart of Dixie" and if not for the fact I like her here, I wish she'd return. That show is in trouble, at least with me. All it has left is that Zoe looks good. If she's not going to be with George, I'm hoping for cancellation.

The first two, you mean.

I agree. But it's still a good show.

"Man Up", on the other hand, is garbage. Oh, it may be good quality to someone, but I can't stand it.

Don't count on Travis to be on "Hart of Dixie" anytime soon...
