Kudos to Mr. Bobby Box, of 98.5 Big Oldies, for being inducted into the NMBA Hall of Fame! Nobody deserved the honor more than the Boxman who has been a staple of Albuquerque radio for so many years. I've listened to the man for at least two decades and have concluded he has forgotten more about real rock and roll than most of us could ever hope to know. Here's to Bobby...and may you continue to do what you do sir, on terms suitable to you.

Funny for Most of the 80's & 90's Box did not have a full time gig on any station with any type of signal. He didn't land a regular daily airshift again until KABG put him on Afternoons in 1999 (from 93-97 he did only saturday mornings on Kool 102) He spent I believe most of the 70's in Ohio and California. Congrats anyway

I remember his weekend mornings well on 102. It was during this time period he published his "Bobby Box's Roots Of Rock & Roll" music CD's...I have a number of them. (Some might still be available, if interested, from Krazy Kat on East Central in Albuquerque. A portion of the profits from these CD's went to Carrie Tingley Hospital.)

Bobby often suffered technical difficulties on air, such as mis-cues and malfunctioning CD players, but he was a trooper and I'm sure his listeners forgave him all. I did. Does anyone remember Bobby playing his R$R at the sports bar in the NE Heights, what, Tuesday or Thursday nights? Good old sock hop times.

Bobby is as personable off the air as he is on air, and he has earned respect from all R&R fans. I'm proud to be a fan and a friend of the Box man. Congrats Bobby....

I've seen those CDs, or CD-Rs rather. Is it legal to burn volumes of compilation CDs and sell them? The ones I saw said something like "for promotional purposes only" on the packaging, which looked like it came out of a printer from a home PC.

While I portion of the profits may have gone to the hospital did any of the profits go to the artists who appeared on them? I doubt it. Was Mr. Box taking money away from the artists who he claims to love?

I've seen plenty of legit compilations put out by oldies stations, but those Box discs looked fishy in every way.

Is he Bobby "Bootlegger" Box? If he is does a bootlegger belong in the NMBA Hall of Fame?

Geez you guys...I am disappointed in your anger and propensity for tossing dirt on anyone and anything that represents a positive image for this sorry-ass radio market. I have to believe those of you who never have anything good to say are nothing more than disgruntled wannabes who never quite made it and resent anyone who has accomplished even marginal success. If you've ever made a living in radio, be it ever so humble, have some respect for those who have stuck it out and continue to do so.

Pointing out that the Bobby Box CD-R series, with their covers that look like they were printed on a home PC, have the appearance of being bootlegs has nothing to do with anger or tossing dirt. It's just an observation.

Are royalties from the CD-Rs being paid to the songwriters and performers? Has the licensing for the hundreds of songs on the CD-R series been cleared? Has AGM opened itself up to potential liability by Box pitching the CD-Rs on the air for all these years? Was it a conscious decision to remove both Big Oldies and Bobby's name from appearing on the later volumes as a way to distance themselves in the event of potential legal action?

These are just a few observations and questions. No anger, no dirt tossing. Examine the product. If it quacks like a duck and waddles like a duck chances are it could be a duck.

Yes what you described is not legal! Box takes a portion, Krazy Katt takes a portion and then they give some to charity. This is not tossing dirt this is just pointing out a fact.I would think that if someone knows who to report this to, should do so. I also think AGM is on the hook since Box does give these CD's away on Air.

The RIAA is a trade association whose members create, manufacture and/or distribute approximately 90 percent of the sound recordings produced and sold in the United States. The RIAA operates a toll-free hot line, 1-800-BAD-BEAT, which can be used by consumers and retailers to report suspected music piracy.

Your jihad against Box and AGM seems to be more than just an observation. Sounds more like you are angry. Here's the info you need, go get 'em if you're so troubled about bootlegs:

Funny I have seen a Jukebox oldies CD with no Disclaimers on it with the cover made on a printer and bobby's name all over it.
I feel you have the legitiment ones mixed up with the not so legit ones. What say we have the Riaa visit Kray and see whats what just for fun. I have also heard Bobby On Air say how he picks the songs for the CD WOW I didn't know he is a big time record exec. I think we should just have the FCC and RiAA look into it. I searched the web and found no such company?

OK...I've been patient and bitten my "fingers" hoping the green-eyed monster would go back to sleep, but apparently some of you are intent on being [******** *****], trying to get your jollies by bashing Box and pecking at the same inane point like Pavlovian dogs. Enough already! And if you persist, at least have the courtesy to learn how to spell the word "legitimate."

Your are correct - sort of. The first three volumes were different on each label, i.e. Volume Two was labeled Big Oldies 98.5 Presents Bobby Box's Roots of Rock & Roll. Vol. Three just says Bobby Box's Roots of Rock & Roll.
Beginning with Vol 4 they were relabeled as Jukebox Oldies , and remained labeled thusly through at least Volume 16, maybe more. However - if you will peruse the labels you have, each and every one credits Post Productions on the jewel case. True, the disclaimers didn't start showing up until the later volumes, but so what? The jewel case inserts are poor quality, but so what? I have some music CD's, such as one entitled Oldies Unlimited which I ordered by mail. The jewel case insert is printed on the same poor quality paper, it is from Marginal Records. Is this also suspect in your mind?

I feel you are the one who appears to be mixed up.

Good idea, go for it. I'm sure the industry would love to hear from you with your wildeyed assertions and unfounded allegations.

I didn't know he is a big time record exec.
Probably isn't, but I'll bet there's a lot you don't know about BB.

I think we should just have the FCC and RiAA look into it.
The FCC has nothing to do with bootleg music CD's.

I searched the web and found no such company?
And because you couldn't find them on the web they don't exist? Bet you didn't find me on the web either, but I assure you, I exist.
