It wouldn't appear the Renda team is breaking out the bottles of champagne. With the exception of country WGNE enjoying modest gains, all stations are down. Specifically, what else can be said about WKQL? I just don't understand how a station can be allowed to continue it's downward spiral with a format that has potential to do way better. Interesting is that if you look in the employment section of their website you will find the following:"We're always looking for creative people on the cutting edge. People who can think outside the box. People who are "doers" not "watchers", "leaders" not "followers." Do you have dazzle and flare? Can you think out of the box and create on the fly? "Yeah, the GM is new and he inherited major programming and talent nightmares. Too much time meandering in mediocrity has taken place. Practicing what they preach on their website should be priority action #1.
 
Give him time. He has only been on the job 3 weeks and is not going to rush to any quick fixes. From what I hear he is lokking at numerous options. The problem continues to be Pittsburgh!Also on a 25-54 demo for april trend WGNE more than doubled. I would consider that more than a modest gain!
 
WGNE is doing very well. However, both WEJZ and WKQL are suffering. WEJZ's 3 month trend is not very pretty IF you look at each month seperately. WKQL is still going nowhere fast.It makes you sorta wonder what Clear Channel is thinking about doing with Rooster.....
 
April sucked that is for sure. I heard consultant in this week

Actualy there is a new consultant for WEJZ. WKQL never had one!
 
WKQL hasn't had much of anything going for them or given to them. The KOOL combination promo is the first, at least from what I can recall, attempt at rewarding some real $$ to listeners and generating some kind of on-air excitment.But as has been said - they never even had a consultant. When we continue to hear that the problem is Pittsburg, we continue to wonder why that is.I would think TR would have wanted the station to begin perfoming well lickity split. The longer they continue to wait, the bigger the problem becomes and the deeper in the hole the numbers go. But, with no critical midday talent, no relief DJ, a programmer who doesn't have experience or no doubt a liking for the music played, virtually no marketing $$, continued inconsistancies and missteps with the music and on and on it goes.And so when we also say - give the new GM a chance-he's only been in the job 3 weeks doesn't fly. The GM has been in this market and knows it and as part of his job, he had to be aware of what the competion was doing and also not doing well. Everyone and his Uncle knows what the problems are. If Pittsburg is reluctant to do anything about it, then you fill out the rest.....

That only matters if it holds. They got a huge Arbitron kiss and, as we've all learned over the years, a great month out of nowhere is only reason to celebrate if you can string a bunch of them together.
 
Look its Mr. Negativity!!!Was it a big stepup yep. But May also included TV for WGNE and other promotions to increase TSL.
 
Well, maybe "Mr. Negativity" as you called Oldiescat was the reason for the boost. I hear he got hold of a diary while visiting in April and filled it out for his 15 minutes of being able to listen. So, there you have your "blip."Regardless, the numbers still are not that impressive, even with Mr. Neg. trying to pull the station along, sinceMburg is a rare supporter these days. Glad, to have all three listeners on the same page (or make that book.)
 
Not impressive. True April is only one month but if those numbers hold for the next two months WGNE wll be a top 7 radio station. We will know if a few months

That's a lot of "ifs". Has nothing to do with being negative, just being realistic. You know, the difference between the ideal world and the real world?
 
True and I imagine the 10 minutes you listened you found all kind of things to fix. We will know on august 4th. Would be interesting to see wGNE as a top 10 radio station after one year

and that's why radio stations are judged on full books vs. partial trends. My point was that neither you or I can say one way or the other BECAUSE IT'S ONLY ONE MONTH! One great monthly followed by two lousy months = mediocre book. We ALL have to wait & see- all the "predicting" has ZERO effect on the final results.

I am going to agree with wcrzx. WGNE has shown what it is made of and Clear Channel is bitting there finger nails at it. Here is what I think why WGNE has been able to have success here in Jax:1. They take care of the listner before profit. Renda see the listner here on Gator as a VIP. They are what hold the station up. Rooster lost that before WGNE ever showed up in Jax. Rooster and CC think profit before listner.2. They have more contest and more winning then WQIK and Rooster both. Ding Dong this is one thing that make listners stay on a station.3. FREE CONCERTS---Clever idea on WGNE's part. WQIK use to them years ago but that was days before CC. This what makes your listners stay with the station and also attracts new listners. Maybe that is why WGNE's listnership has gone up about 200 percent. 4.Music--Okay Rooster is mixing in the legends, but so what?? Is that going to make me listen. NO. Heck just dont make sense for me to listen when one station that knows the format very well with a PD for a love of that music now you see why I am a supporter of WGNE.later.

And you always do. Just because you don't agree with me you don't have to dismiss my perspectives. When WGNE is a close competitor with WQIK and begins to severely affect WQIK's revenue, THEN come back with all your bluster. Your sure are making a lot of noise for A ONE MONTH TREND.
