The latest KNSJ disaster

Then there was Activist San Diego's escapade where they lied on their application and fudged the engineering report about having permission to put a transmitter for a station in the hotbed of liberal politics, Ramona, CA, on the Pala Indian Reservation.

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that Activist San Diego is not fit to be a licensee.
I came to that conclusion even before they first went on the air; they published some kind of statement of what they were going to do to "fix" the shortcomings of the rest of radio.

They forgot that, if you are a dog, "fix" has a different meaning. And that is a dog station owner.

We usually camped in the dunes about five miles east of the store and gas station off of California State Route 78. For all of the trips I made there, there were only five Stateside AM radio stations that could be received easily:

560--KBLU, Yuma
, AZ1230--KXO El Centro, CA
1300--KROP Brawley, CA
1430--KAMP, El Centro, CA
1490--KCIO, Calexico, CA

Of these, only KROP and some of the Mexicali stations put in good local signals at night.
Funny (and totally not related to the thread) when I was a DXer in Cleveland, OH, in the late 50's and early 60's, KROP was fairly often heard on 1300 after all the others on that frequency had signed off at Midnight on Sunday for Monday morning maintenance and the channel was totally empty if conditions favored the SW.

I found this:

Apparently this one isn't the fault of KNSJ. Other than possibly the fact that they weren't diligent about where they lease tower space from. I don't know much about that mountain, but apparently it's a pretty harsh place.

Dave B.

Then I guess they might have a civil liability action against American Tower including due diligence. The other antenna owners might have a claim against American as well.

Of course, did Activist San Diego pay for liability insurance....likely not? As amateurs, they likely didn't understand this.

Any litigation might take years to resolve.

(Spoken as a non-attorney spokesman. Your actual results may vary.) 😂🤣😎

Yes. I had sometimes picked up KROP at nights in Phoenix when I nulled the local on 1310. Sometimes it even outperformed Pasadena's (then) KWKW in air strength.

I see I made a mistake in my narrative. We camped 5 miles west, and not east, of the gas station and store at Glamis. I believe (and someone, I'm sure will correct me if I'm wrong) that California State Route 78 slightly rises around that point, allowing the Los Angeles and San Diego FM stations to be heard there--they cannot be heard in the floor of the valley itself in towns such as Brawley and El Centro.

Off topic, but 1300 KROP should be be back on the air. They were granted an L2C last week. 1 KW daytime 475 watts night non directional.

Is there a deadline on this fundraiser?

It looks like they wouldn't have enough money to hire an attorney on a liability claim against the tower structure owner.

It's weird, when I go to KNSJ.org, there is no menu. I had to click on the tower announcement to reach the main website which has the menu with links.

Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Still at $ 685 for the donations of the needed $ 25,000.00
They could take a cue from PBS, and offer donors something for their donation.

Find sympathetic businesses that will donate freebies to give away.

For $100 or more... a KNSJ t shirt or hoodie.

Hold a bake sale. Lol.

People like it when they get something for their donation, instead of "Give me give me, give me".

Does anyone really want to admit listening to that trainwreck of a station?
