The Legendary Top 40 KOMA 1520, Now KOKC, License To Cover Issued With 1/4 Wave Towers vs. 1/2 Wave Towers

Still Class A, formerly Class 1-B, 50000 watts Day and Night with 3 towers, but about half as tall. Arguably better than other downgrades lately, but still considerably reduced efficiency. The rebuild was to replace tornado damaged towers.

We still remember hearing Top 40 on KOMA 1520, particularly between LSS to the East, and pattern change at Sunset in Oklahoma City. With WKBW nulls to the West, the signal in the Midwest was often very good during that Twilight period. Over the years, several stations squeezed in between WKBW and KOMA on 1520, limiting their signal between Sunset times in some areas.

I've heard them up here, quite wel la few times, when they ran 12.5 KW on the Night DA before the license to cover was issued.

(And before anyone asks.. how do i know? I asked the engineers who worked on the rebuild.. i know of some of them)

Here's my audio:

It starts out ok, fades down.. then go to 2 mins 11 second, an OKC kia dealer ad followed by an OKDOT ad and then a station id

How the mighty have fallen. Used to listen to the blowtorch KOMA from Tucson AZ in the 50's when our local T40 (KTKT) went off the air at sundown. There was usually a bit of static but it was listenable.
