The Life & Death Of The Compact Disc.

Funny how I seem to remember some of the companies sales people telling us that switching to CD's that if the CD's were taken care of then they could last forever and were a lot less likely to get scratched or have any kind of damage unlike vinyl records and much better for storing material than tape, I wonder where those guys are now.

Post #6:
Yes,...exactly as Gatekeeper007 has stated: They,...the labels...told us: "Can't be scratched", "Better sound", and the one that troubled me then, and even more now..."They are Archival,...last over 100-years". Now, today, I expose "The Lie"! What I felt uneasy about then was "Metal based storage". However, let me set the record straight: As for digital, the safest place for music is on a Hard Drive; "Different Metal". As a collector, I also feel uneasy about the new solid state drives. I would also like to state that the brand new shrunk-wrapped CD, at retail price is in danger. When the price of the download was equal or near the retail CD...no problem, but when the download became lower, half, or even less than half of the tangable retail product...it spells death for it...the new CD. So, Think Tank members, Kick-in, and let's here from all of you...
