The Lite 93.9 -- The AC That Plays Rap!

They've been playin' "Rich Girl" by Gwen Stefani featuring Eve. How could WLIT end up playing rap-oriented songs? "Rich Girl" is half rap. WLIT is the only AC, and is a CHR-leaning AC, similar to WLTW in NYC & CHQM in Vancouver.

Well, these so called "lite" stations don't sound that lite anymore. Some of the music is, but WLTW in New York plays a lot of classic dance and some upbeat pop tunes.
______________

I don't undertand why they left in the rap....it isn't that hard to take eve out of the song....It would be even easier to SKIP THE RECORD!

I have to agree with radiolover78 that stations that call themselves light (lite) don't sound as light (lite) as they used to. With WLIT having no real competition (don't know if WILV is actually competition to WLIT), they can get away with playing songs that other AC stations might not touch. In the case of Light 97.3 in Milwaukee, that move hurt them as there are 2 Hot AC stations in Milwaukee and led to the demise of a heritage station, and the Brew is rating higher than the old light. But back to the topic, I've heard WW1 play Rich Girl with Eve's vocals in the song. However Hot AC WZVN during Matt in the Morning, Matt plays the version w/o Eve (yes WZVN operates locally from 5-9am) and WTMX plays the version with snippets of Eve in it.

WLIT repositioned as "Today's Hits & Yesterday's Favorites" "The Light"

so it sounds like they don't really mean "Light" as in soft but light as in lamp or whatever.

I am pretty sure WZVN is still local 5-9am....but "Matt in the Morning" is no more.

Matt moved on from Radio One.

I think the Co-Host Jeff is doing it solo now....BUT

I did see a posting for the job on Indiana Radio Watch

just an FYI

A) Look at the state of CHR in this town (or lack of it). Other stations always try to compensate when CHR/Mainstream is in the doldrums.
B) They are positioning to be an alternative to WTMX
C) They definetily have influence from WLTW. Only thing is WLTW in NYC has differnet competition and demos than Chicago.
D) Times are changing folks. Good choices or bad, "Lite" is seen diff from CC than a lot of people here see it. Heck who would of thought a month ago that Markets #1 & #2 would have their oldies stations blown out and not replaced?
______________

WKSC is SLOWLY improving on and off musically. At least during the overnights. I have been hearing Howie Day, Coldplay, Lifehouse, Gavin DeGraw's Chariot, and some of the other stuff they don't play during the day. I've also heard Green Day - Holiday during the day finally. You can even occatinally hear a 90s-early 2000s Goo Goo Dolls, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tonic, 3 Doors Down, etc usually during the midday and early afternoon. Its still very rhythmic leaning, but its better then what cities like Milwaukee have for CHR. Rhythmic with 1 or 2 rock songs tossed in.

The only things I am not happy about are the firing of Java Joel and the fact that they dumped the reverb. The reverb made it sound more interesting.

With WLIT, it doesn't really bother me that they are getting brighter. I've been listening to WLIT since the late 80s and never would have imagined hearing the Hot AC tracks I used to hear on WPNT coming out of WLIT.
______________

In New York, Lite FM says, "The Best Variety of Yesterday and Today". They used to be "New York's One and Only Lite Music Station".

I would call WILV competition to WLIT. Even if Love plays mostly soft R&B crossovers, they also toss in some classic AC as spice such as "The way we were" by Barbara Streisand. That song has been off the radio for so long that I would now call it an "Oh Wow". If WLIT keeps getting brighter, more offices and 35-54 women will find WILV. But WLIT will always be saved by Christmas.
