THE LONGEST RUNNING ROCK STATIONS OF TODAY!

dlf said:
5) WAAF - Boston area (they have been Rock since the late 60's or early 70's, but I think they may have gone off the rock reservation once or twice in the 70's.

WAAF went full time Progressive Rock in March, 1970. They briefly made an attempt at Top 40 during the summer of 1974, but quickly returned to AOR in September, 1974. Some other long running North East Rock stations include WBLM, Portland, Me dating back to March, 1973, as well as WQBK-Albany, NY which went full time Progressive Rock in August, 1975. They evolved to Classic Rock in the late 1980s, and have been an Active Rock station in recent years...

Although not Classic Rock, Cool 105.7 (KOKZ) in Waterloo, Iowa had been Oldies for awhile. Over the past couple of years however, they've transitioned to playing more from the 70s, 80s, and even 90s.

Clear Channel's two Classic Rock stations here in East Central Iowa, those being KCQQ-Q106.5 (Davenport-Quad Cities) and KKRQ-100.7 The FOX (Iowa City-Cedar Rapids) have been playing more and more Early and Mid 90s Alternative Rock since CC went to using a Satellite Fed format from the "Format Lab." Although they still play 70s and 80s Rock, they don't play much of anything from the 60s anymore, which they used to. The only thing I hear from the 60s is The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, maybe Bob Dylan once or twice a month.

KINK Portland started to evolve to AAA around 1974 but if you listen to the station, it still has the general feel of what began as Rock, Folk, Blues & Jazz on Christmas Day 1968.

93.7 KLBJ - The Rock of Austin - KLBJ-FM signed on the air in Austin, Texas in 1972. Within two years, KLBJ grew to be Austin's top rock station, where it has remained for over a quarter of a century.

KFOG has had its current format since September of '82(flipped from an easy-listening/elevator music format). All the other well-remembered FM rock stations in SF (and San Jose) in the '60s and '70s/early '80s-KSAN, KSFX, KCBS-FM/KRQR,KSFX, KSJO, KOME- fell by the wayside in the meantime.

I, myself, has had the experience of meeting a couple KSAN legends who would up at the Alan Freed Studio of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Raechel Donahue (who left and moved on in 2006) and Dusty Street who is still working there today. Just thought of being a little off-topic here to continue this still long running subject as of today!

semoochie you didn't mention 92.3 KGON! I have only lived in Oregon since 1980, and they were classic rock then and now!

WFBQ In Indy, Valentines Day 1978. Although they have not been rocking as long as WMMS or KSHE they have been Classic Rock/AOR the entire time.

WDVE in Pittsburgh has been playing rock music since 1969, when their calls were KQV-FM. They changed the call letters to WDVE in 1971, but their rock music heritage started in 1969.
