Well, I was sort of afraid of this...
WXXM 92.1FM, set to become a Fox Sports outlet in January, did an about face and returned to its liberal talk format due to heavy local pressure here in Madison (it actually became a minor political topic).
Now, I am not at all opposed to the LT format, but this reversal will eventually shake down the format of their sister station (WTSO 1070AM) in that Jim Rome is going of the air, at least temporarily, here.
I remember when JR was on WHIT 1550AM a few years back, and they attempted an ill-received switch to Fox Sports from SNR in order to, as it came out later, keep JR in their lineup. The jump failed, and they eventually lost JR to WTSO. I assume this similar train of conversation happened more recently with WTSO, an ESPN affiliate. No Fox Sports, no JR.
I do not know if Premier might be playing this hardball in other markets, but I would assume it is or will be happening. All I know is that since my work computer is banned from streaming, no more Jim Rome for me. Does it make sense to totally lose exposure of a personality in a market in order to wield that big stick? I admit to being naive on several topics, and I am afraid I am again with this one.
Does anyone have any confirmation or plausible denial of this hypothesis?
