The "Magic" returning to WMAG?

Was flipping through stations and stopped at WMAG, where they called the station "The New Magic 99.5 WMAG." Is this a sign of change on the way? WMAG used the "Magic" handle back in the 80s, when it was an AC station. Their current playlist hasn't really changed, though. Any thoughts?

Might as well bring back the "Magic" - they already got the call letters...

I'm glad the Magic moniker will go back to its rightful owner. WMAG was Magic for a very long time and many people were still calling it that. I can't imagine what bonehead allowed the moniker to be stolen. Hopefully they will be more protective of it this time.

You can't imagine what bonehead opted to steal not only the moniker, but the Clear Channel artwork as well? I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count! His initials are TC!

Finally, he got what he deserved. Too bad it took so long.

Thank GOD Magic is going Oldies!!! :p ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D This is good news because they have a good signal some places
I have to travel and it will be expesially good to have oldies on a FM that spells magic right!!!!!! :) ;) :D ;D  :( OOOOOH YEA! They don't even have a PD so they must bbe bringing somebody in to do the oldies format who does that for CC? Great news!

They are still using the same logo, but modified...

Translation: They are pulling an "RDU". :p

... except we won't have to worry about that "Yuck Radio" format WRDU switched to going to WMAG, as it went to sister station 94.5 El Beato (now WPTI)...

Amen! You just can't crap on people for years and not eventually have to answer for something! Eventually the laws of nature will play out. Good riddance. I sincerely hope he leaves this market for good.

Exhibit A: Stations not owned by Clear Channel that use the "Kiss-FM" branding trademarked by Clear Channel, in markets such as New York City, and even Clear Channel's own backyard in San Antonio!

TC is Tom Collins...not his real name. I think his real first name is Wilbur? He has been the General Manager at Davidson County Broadcasting for years. He also did a lot of the station's programming. He's at least 65 years old, but probably closer to 70. One of the worst management people I've ever seen in
ANY industry. Wears lots of cheesy gold jewelry and has an exagerated sense of self-importance and ability.

Sounds like OldSchool RadioMan! :)

How can WTHZ have a trademark on something they ripped off from another station [in Cleveland, wasn't it]?

Yep. The moniker and logo were similar to that of WMJI "Majic 105.7" in Cleveland. That station is still oldies (has been since 1990). After a series of mergers (much like in any CC market), WMJI came under the CC umbrella in 1999.

Trade mark on Magic?

doubtful.....and even if they did have one it would be for "majic" not Magic, which is what 995 us using.

And for Arbitron usage, now MAG can claim it in their slogan file, which 94 1 can't stop since they don't use
it on the air at all.
