I believe this is generally considered (best I can tell from comments people make here & elsewhere) one of the better local shows airing in a small market, so I'm going to use it to highlight something that at least a few people have mentioned lately -- that "local" may not be all some try to crack it up to be.
Consider this, from the just released Spring 05 ratings (which included TSA counties like Hall).
In the station's home county:
Zoller tied for 6th P12+ with a fairly respectable number ... but trails WSB-AM in the timeslot by nearly 150%. That's down from a tie for 3rd back in Fall 04.
When you narrow the audience to P25-54 ... she flatlines. In Fall 04, she tied for 7th in the timeslot, with less than half the audience of WSB-AM.
P12+ vs Rush = same number, slightly larger than Hannity
In the TSA:
-- In both Sp05 & Fa04 Zoller pulled significantly fewer total listeners (P12+) than does Rush or Hannity on the same station, the small AQH of any daypart 6a-7p.
-- Spring 05 P25-54 audience is flatine in the TSA too, and that's coming off a book that had remarkable numbers for 5a-9a. Back in Fa04, she did pulled less than half the audience that Hannity attracts to the station.
To put that in perspective a bit, on a 2-book average (Sp05 & Fa04), simulcasts of WSB-TV's Channel 2 Action News at 6 had double the AQH P25-54 that this top-flight "local" show managed to attract no matter whether you isolate the home county or consider the entire TSA.
Point being -- there's a general consensus that this is one of the strongest local shows going ... and yet it underperforms syndicated fare on other stations OR on the same station, either way you want you look at it.
