The Michael Baisden Show is Out at WDAS FM

To my listeners on WDAS in Philadelphia, when you turn on your radios today at 3pm ET you will no longer hear the Michael Baisden Show. The powers that be at Clear Channel have decided that music is enough in the afternoon to achieve their ratings goals. Although we were consistently in the top 5, and beating our nearest Urban Adult competitor by 10 positions, the decision was made to remove The Michael Baisden Show. While I am excited about adding Columbus, OH, last week, and I appreciate my other 78 affiliates, there seems to be a disturbing trend in urban radio to opt to give the black community less information about what’s going on in our community, even when my program is competitive, and in some cases winning in it’s time slot.

I think we(blacks) need to start buying up these LP station oportunities just for that problem. We need to control our information for and about our community.

Look for radio-one too put him on WRNB 100.3
That is a possibility, given a similar thing happened in Detroit years ago. CC's WMXD dropped it in 2008, but sometime later R1's WDMK jumped on the opportunity to bring him back.

I couldn't agree with you more. Seems like nobody else is trying.

Oh well, CC Philly should have allowed WDAS-FM to remain local during the afternoon drive in the first place. It's so hair-brained for such a heritage urban station like WDAS to being basically conceding its 2nd most profitable daypart to syndication. Foolish, I say, but wise move to go back local. Maybe this will began a nationwide trend for stations to reclaim their afternoons back.

Chicago is Doug Banks' only Top 10 affiliate where he airs on WVAZ. Apparantly his urban ac version of the show is a lot more popular among markets with 300k people or less only as opposed to his heyday when hip hop and rnb stations in a number of Top 50 markets carried him. Even he was popular then with Sacramento listeners on KBMB "103.5 The Bomb" from 1997-2004 (when it changed owners); when Banks moved from PM to AM Drive that station pushed Tom Joyner back to 3 am to accompany him. That was a rarity for a West Coast urban outlet to back a syndicated show for the longest.

The Doug Banks Show is so boring! The music is fine (I'd even say good), but the content is a joke! They have it on an AM station/translator WGIV W277CB here in Charlotte. The old WQNC "My 92.7" used to carry it, but they dropped it.

What about THE DOUG BANKS SHOW?

He's still on the air??? I haven't heard that name in like a decade lol. His morning show used to be on the now defunct Power 97.5 here in Houston.

He's on during the evenings on the Perry stations in Oklahoma KGTO 1050am Tulsa and KKRX 1050am Lawton. They air it in the evenings vs the afternoons.

Doug is barely holding on to syndication. Very few affiliates.

I ran Doug in the mornings on my mainstream up until the end. It performed well for me and Doug is a great guy to deal with. He would do anything to help you with the show.

At that point ABC tried to get all of us to take the Big Boy show. I passed on that and was the first 'non Radio One' affiliate of Rickey Smiley. We have been running it with huge success ever since.

Doug is a great guy and puts on a good show. But in Philadelphia...especially on WDAS, a powerhouse Urban AC and one of Philly's TOP stations, it should be local. Mornings AND Afternoons syndicated? Come on, thats a disgrace in Philadelphia. Thats what Clear Channel has done with Q102 with Elvis Durran and Ryan Seacrest and in all the big top 40 major markets. Now too many Urban AC's are running Steve Harvey mornings, Michael Baisden afternoons, and some even Keith Sweat at night. Local radio...especially in Major markets are a must. I mean no more than 1 syndicated show in a big daypart.

Lots of Urban AC are running with only 1 local jock, middays. Clear Channel is the worst!

I think Cumulus has got Clear Channel beat for the worst company in radio.

I don't know about that because at least Cumulus still has actual local talent on most of its urban radio stations. Hell, their urban flagship is Power 92.3 Jams (KIPR) in Little Rock, AR, which is like 84th largest radio market in the US. That says a lot because medium markets with CC aren't even a factor although they maybe the highest rated and top biller in their respective market area.
