The mightier 1090 returns to san diego!

BoomBox4, thanks for the support. My portable radio meter was feeling a bit insulted. It prides itself on accurately displaying drops (or increases) in signal strength. You've restored my meter's faith in humans.

AM 1090 is still simulcasting the owner's FM music station in Texas. Anyone know when the new leaseholder will return 1090 to sports? I believe the switch was supposed to happen this summer.

I would much rather here Ultra on 1090 then the wimpy sports 1090.

rolls eyes

I have never even heard of Sports Grid Radio. Do they even have a lineup of live shows? I think having a lineup of live shows from a national lineup is crucial for any all-sports stations. It would have made perfect sense for the Mighty 1090 to affiliate with ESPN since San Diego is still without an ESPN affiliate after ESPN San Diego went off the air on 1700 XEPE-AM. Even SB Nation Sports Radio would have made more sense.

Not necessarily. In much of Mexico and many nations in Latin America the Internet is cheaper, faster and more reliable than in the US.

Nations in Latin America leapt over the first stages of cellular and Internet connections and adopted much better core technology. People who were waiting a year or more for a landline suddenly found that a low cost cellular could be both mobile and immediately available. The internet structure was not built on old phone lines but on new fiber.

For two decades, my daughter in Quito had faster Internet than I had access to in Glendale, CA, Burbank, CA and the Palm Springs metro... with the first two areas being centers for huge media companies. Only in my newest address have I access to 1mb/1mb connections at a reasonable cost... while my daughter has similar, but at about a quarter of my monthly bill.

I don't know how related to 1090 this is (same owner?), but it sounds like the former ESPN 1700 is now a Spanish-language version of Phoenix's Wow Factor: Somebody's personal record collection played on shuffle, but with announcements and ads on AM instead of FM.

Not related.. 1700 is owned by Jamie Bonilla, governor of Baja California.

It's running Heraldo Radio news talk programming by day from XHDL FM Mexico City and thats whos programming the overnight music

Scott Farrell (ex-CBS) has been on SportsGrid since the start of this year, and I think SportsGrid is supplying some overnight programming to SB Nation.

The official on-air line-up for Mightier 1090 hasn't been announced yet, but the proposed on-air launch date is August 3rd.

Looking at their unfinished website and putting some clues together from their partners page, it looks like they'll be broadcasting Notre Dame football (if/when a season happens) and with Compass, they'll probably become a Raiders network station.

So Farrell might be returning to radio after all? Still kind of bummed he left. But maybe sports radio has sort of had its run. Some of the networks are diminished or gone (SB, CBS reduced in numbers, NBC sort of taking a hike...).

Well, Compass has now been removed for their website as a 'partner' of the station and replaced with Sports USA (for NFL coverage).

Scott Farrell has been officially announced as doing the 1-3pm shift and 7pm to 9pm shift on Weekdays.

Website is up at themightier1090.com

And to make things confusing, they've replaced Sports USA with Compass again.

Some hints to their weekend programming. Although no shows named, they've updated the timeslots.

Delayed a day, but the 9am - 12pm slot for 1090 is to be announced tomorrow afternoon.

Talk is a TV Personality who'll be using 1090 as their base for a new syndicated show.

Full Mighter 1090 line up has been released - https://www.themightier1090.com/the-line-up

Listening/watching the Scott and BR Podcast today, when they announced Rich Eisen as 9am-12pm they mentioned a few other things...

1) They'll be taking Notre Dame Football and also SportsUSA's NFL coverage
2) The Breakast (6-9) slot hasn't been filled yet - SportsGrid's The Morning After is a 'holder' for now.
3) They attempted to get the Pat McAfee Show for 7am to 9am, but the syndication company blocked it from happening. Speculation that McAfee might be switching syndication companies, and McAfee on 1090 might be a chance in the future.
4) They haven't settled yet on the 12pm-1pm weekday slot. Lee 'Hacksaw' Hamilton was approached, but couldn't get his head around the new remote technology. JT The Brick's Raiders Talk show (from Vegas) might be potential fill-in, although they mentioned other names (like Reggie Bush).

All kicks off Monday August 17
