THE MISERY CONTINUES

New Year nothing NEW on the dial, same crap that defines the Atlanta radio wasteland.................. :p :p :p ::) ::) ::) ::) ??? ??? ???

Get over it, Brent. This is the "newoutsta normal." Sorry there cannot be a format that totally whets your voacious appetite for Find outstanding broadcasting. Those of us who read and post here can do nothing; only the suits can. Talk to them. Find something to be enthusiastic about and get on with life (or LOOK, The SATURDAY EVENING POST, TIME, NEWSWEEK etc.)

There are bound to be changes in the days ahead. Look frward to those with anticipation.

Have you tried 89.1 WBCX? I hear oldies frequently there and 105.1 is a good choice. I think I've heard 50s oldies on 89.3 before? If your driving east to Athens, I heard oldies on 90.5 late one saturday night too. I also recommend 91.9 WCLK, but it's not oldies. Scan around some of the college signals.

I know about all of those, but I live in transmitter hell. I live in Va Highland right between the Shepard's and Edgewood behemoths.....So all of those signals are overloaded...91.9 with the new power is better, but still lacking in many ways to even what it use to be, they play a lot more hip hop leaning now. It not the great jazz they use to play.

I live in a worse place. Cheshire Bridge Road. On the AM side I have 790 AM about 200' out my back window and of course I am under the Richland Tower. So, I am in AM and FM hell.

I have RF filters on every piece of telephone and alarm equipment that I have. When we first moved in in 2000 (new construction) 790 The Zone was coming in on the fire alarm along with my analog dial-up modem speaker.

On the FM side I cannot even pick up 106.7 because of the splatter from the other stations.

WCLK, 91.9 and WRFG, 89.3 broadcast from your backyard, Brent. You can hear them.....I promise! Neither are oldies stations but they are certainly not cookie cutters.....

I modified my post. I get them fine, but they are strange.......... :-\

I listen to 50s Doo-wop on 89.3 WRFG Saturday mornings. If you're up, turn on the radio.

I remember dealing with something like this when I was in southern Winston-Salem from 94.1 WWGL. My computer was turned-off and I heard it through the speakers. It was on cable channel 6 and on the AM band around 1350, blocking WPOL on an old Sony radio I had back then.

107.9 WHTA had complaints from neighbors when they moved to their tower. To end the complaints, they dropped power to go a little higher up.

Thanks, what time for the Doo-Wop???

I feel sorry for Brent and anyone over the age of 55 (most of the people on this board) that still live in Atlanta a city in which the median age is 32. I would tell you to move to Savannah but they just lost their Modlie Godlie 40's and 50's music station Star 1400/104.3 WSEG to ESPN Sports. If that music wasn't selling in Savannah the chances of it selling in Atlanta is quite small. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T36xr8_Ha7I

Sirius/XM...all day, all week...chs 40 and 50...Got it in my car and house via DishTV

Pay $25 for a 6month Sirius subscription, and to me, well worth it

Frankly, I see no future in radio as we once knew it

Personally I would absolutely love it if CC would flip 640 AM to a big-band/music of your life format. That would be an interesting start. Ignore the ratings and (literally) go for the gold! Then, take 105.3 and try to create an actual decent oldies station. I know there will be support for leaving 105.3 alone but I am trying to give Brent a station he really wants. Have some fun with the thing since the signal is so-so and try running a true nostalgic format on it. Boss radio rides again! Who knows? Might work?

Talk about splitting the audience. It may work, but there wouldn't be a buck in it. I believe there is indie company running that combo in Las Vegas. It's run on the cheap, and sounds like it too.
