The Moring After Show on O-Rock?

I have been working out of town for the last 4 months. I have been home for about a week and I have a 40 minute drive to work every morning. I used to love to listen to Drew, Savannah and Silent Rob. My ride to work would consist of mostly interesting talk from the hosts and callers and maybe one or two songs. Now, it is all music. I get a sports update from Silent Rob and a segment of Deep Inside Savannah and Drew is regulated to talking to sponsors when they send someone in. What happened to this show? Their talent is being wasted.

I have an iPod if I want to listen to music. I want entertaining talk and The Monsters don't really do it for me. Any suggestions on other interesting talk morning shows that are not conservative (Limbaugh is not my thing)?

I like the Fiasco on 101.1, but you'll deal with some music there too. Morning radio in Orlando isn't that great at the moment.

What's so wrong about a station advertising itself as a rock station playing music in the mornings? As of late, I've stopped listening to WOCL and WJRR on my way to and on my way home from work because they insisted on basing their shows on the on-air "personalities" instead of the music.

I started listening to WOCL again on afternoons they decided to focus that part of the day back on music and getting rid of the Jody and Scott show, and after reading your post, I think I'll give O-Rock another try in the mornings.

I couldn't agree more with Starman... I loved the talk of morning shows when I was in high school (15 years ago) but have grown to despise it. I'll be more willing to listen to WOCL in the morning if they are in fact playing more music.

Well, you are in the minority. A lot of people SAY they want music in the morning, but if that's always true why have shows like Stern, Bob & Tom, John Boy & Billy and a host of others done so well? They almost always beat a direct competitor who's playing music opposite them.

So it is just a few songs here and there? Or mostly music? If it is mostly talk - I'm in!

Nothing wrong with it at all. It just isn't what I want to listen to. I have my ipod and CDs if I want to listen to music. I like talk radio and enjoyed the talk that Drew, Savanah and Silen Rob provided.

I'd say a little bit more music. It's usually two songs, talk break, commercial break, repeat.

The Morning After Show on O-Rock is a fine show, however, the Orlando market as such has shown to be much more interested in Satelite Programming than local show host. When looking at the rating it is evident that WOCL is struggling and I commend them for making these changes...though it seems a bit too late. It is really too bad because the station as a whole is really great but like a lot of other markets alternative rock WOCL is not a ratings getter. They struggle in West Palm Beach which is also a CBS radio station with their alternative rock station as well.

I think that if you deliver good quality local programming you can make enough money to avoid satellite. The radio industry is suffering for a lack of talent because there are no longer true 'farm team' markets where people can learn their craft and be groomed. We have a nation of Board Ops and a few people in the boonies getting to be live and do Swap Shop and other crap without any guidance. The University system has never understood our industry and I don't think the community college system really gets it either as far as grooming talent.
Before I got out of the business I was recruiting local new stand up comedians to work as morning show side kicks. If you can acclimate them and team them with someone who will be patient with them they work OK. The one I had quit because his partner scared the shit out of him and made him lose his confidence. She was a stong and sharp personality and expected him to catch on more quickly than he did.
The only thing I would have done differently would have been to have daily air-check sessions with them to help balance the relationship both on air and off.
I do not really miss this business a damn bit. Talent is a pain to deal with.

WTKS had a huge following Howard Stern in the Monring. I think a lot of listeners have followed him to Sirius. The Monsters had good number Middays, following Howard. Their ratings have dropped sharply in morning drive.

Silent Rob has left for a station in Phili...good luck rob I really liked the guy and I did a little research on him the other day...That guy is a real pro he's going to a great station in the #7 market. His resume is quite impressive also he worked in Ohio I think it was cincinati if I am not mistaken on another legendary radio station. This guy was a real pro...god's speed man.

All nice of you to say...thank you for the kind words and well-wishes.
