The Morphy Richards DRM Receiver

Apparently the British firm "Morphy Richards" (yeah, hadn't heard of them either, had to look it up on Wikipaedia) is selling a Didital Radio Mondiale LW/MW/SW receiver that apparently also has EU147 DAB capability, and there's a possibility I may opt to attain ownership of one......

View it here: http://www.igear.com/product_details.php?item_id=1478& and there's a bit about it on Deutsche Welle's site at http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,2173460,00.html .

So, if anyone has had any experience with this rig, my queries regarding it include the following:
How well would it fare as a shortwave D.R.M. DXing tool, in general,
And how well does it work on analogue SW?
Assuming I can get far enough away from the powerline noise, would there be any chance of hearing anything in D.R.M. mode here in the northwestern United States?
Is it worth the £170 + import taxes and whatever else U.S. Customs wants to slam me with,
Or should I just save my money and ask Santa for a shiny new G-8 instead?

I realise the EU147 section wouldn't be of any real use here, and apparently won't in Canada either in a little while.

I have no experience with this receiver but here some DRM observations. I've started playing around with DRM using my SDR and some DRM decoding software. I can't speak for your location, but I've been able to receive only a few DRM transmissions with 100% copy here in Michigan, and the quality is amazing when you consider the signal is coming over shortwave. These include Radio Canada Int'l. from Sackville, Radio Exterior de Espana from Costa Rica, and Vatican Radio. Sorry, I don't recall the freqs offhand. I probably wouldn't use "DRM" and "DX" in the same context although there have been a few instances where I've gotten a good enough lock to get the station's ID, but no audio (Bulgaria for example). If I lived in Europe, where there seems to be more stations using DRM on shortwave (and elsewhere), then I might consider purchasing such a dedicated receiver, but here in the US I would probably hold off for now - just my opinion though.

I think that Morphy Richards may have already helped you make your decision for now, at least.

When I went to the link, at the very bottom, it indicated that the product was not available and there was not any info that I could find as to if and when it would be available.

For clarification, I may be wrong (as so often, I am!), the " Product not available" comment was the on the UK i-gear site; I did not check the other sites mentioned for ordering from other countries.

It really does sound like an intriguing radio, just how well it would work in my location is a big question.

I couldn't see the "Product Not Available" thing. Must be a javascript thing (I usually leave java/script support disabled in my Firefox.)

Are there any other companies currently producing DRM receivers, or are MR the only one?
