I just tuned into The Mountain and heard Dream On by Aerosmith! I went to their site to check their recently played songs: Heart, The Cars, T. Rex, David Essex(!), Led Zeppelin! What's going on here?
I'm thinking a lot of The Mountain's failure can be laid at Dave Benson's feet, beginning with the summary discharge of Marty Reimer. Then there's his complete misunderstanding of programming to the PPM methodology. The slide of KFOG began under his tenure and he applied the same misguided strategy to KMTT. It's a shame that a heritage radio station had to be brought down by such incompetence.
I wonder if that means KISW will be playing less classics and more modern rock? I wonder if Marty is thrilled about this he features a ton of indie artists on his webcast and I don't see how that will fit in if indeed they are shifting to classic rock....
They had to get off the stick. Running the same two dozen songs day after day after day from a playlist that never seemed to update had to chop up the audience. How many times a each day over a year can you play Eddie Vedder and Amy Winehouse without the listener eventually punching out? Classic rock may be just a placeholder but the opportunity to do a bit of a listener grab has to be better.
As I have observed KMTT since Shawn Stewart was let go, they've NARROWED the AAA down to the most basic crossovers and filled out the rest with a very generic, KISM-ish classic rock format.
