The Move in is complete!

WFJO 92.5 has completed its move into Jacksonville proper. It is being heard all over the city now with an Urban Gospel Format.

Do they have a new owner yet? or is it still in receivership with Savage?

It was a done deal. The price tag Savage wanted was one million. I know that he turned down a couple of offers for less.

im sure who ever is leasing the station is working on a deal..105.7 is on a decent stick kinda powerful but too close to 105.3 and 105.5 to move in closer...105.3 is good but the processing needs work.

What is the new COL? Is it Arlington?

its Jacksonville Beach...but it appears yesterday afternoon that they have put the signal back near folkston it was very weak yesterday afternoon.

Apparently what some were hearing Friday evening was an initial test of the new Jax southside 92.5 transmitter facility. My guess is they are now waiting on the official FCC okay. I always thought that 92.1 would be a good candidate for a Jax move-in, but with 91.7 and the impending arrival of 92.5 on the Southside, I would think that keeps 92.1 where it is (Although they already do have a very good mono signal over a large section of Duval from what I've heard). Plus with 91.9 in St. Augustine, the 92.1 transmitter is probably as close to Jacksonville proper as it's going to get.

The reason why the move to Jacksonville Beach has been delayed is because Scott Savage just submitted another application for a construction permit modification for the new transmitter. The changes pending on the new application are very minor, which involve a slight reduction of antenna height and a 0.1 watt increase of ERP. The signal coverage area, however, will remain exactly the same as before.

Good catch Otha, the info was just posted on the FCC "Daily Digest". I'm wondering whether 1.7KW is going to cut it over the big Jax metro area with all the tropo we get in this part of the world. Especially since WFJO will be directional with minimal wattage towards the Westside and OP, in order to protect co-channel 92.5 WNDT-FM, Alachua (Gainesville). While the signal will likely be readable with a good receiver in Orange Park and the Westside, I'm guessing this scenario may possibly result in picket fencing in a moving vehicle in these areas, especially when the atmosphere is "juicy" here in Northeast Florida. Any predictions, thoughts?

Because of the directional nature of the coverage pattern of WFJO Jacksonville Beach, the signal on the Westside (near 103rd Street) is weak and it is suspectible to tropospheric conditions that causes alot of interference, which can make the station unlistenable at times. Also, some of the cheaper radios and clock radios can't receive the station's weak signal. If WNDT (Alachua/Gainesville) wasn't a factor, the signal would certainly be better in the westernmost parts of Duval County and northern Clay County.

It appears that the move in is final because the station ID for WFJO is now Jacksonville Beach and the signal is clearer citywide. However, the signal on the Westside and Orange Park is still relatively weak although it is a bit stronger than it was when they were testing the new transmitter. The reason why it was weaker when they were testing the signal is because FM directional stations must broadcast at half power until the FCC approves the license of the upgrade. Here is the official FCC rule for program tests for directional and nondirectional full-power FM stations:

73.1620 Program tests.

(1) The permittee of a nondirectional AM or FM station, or a
nondirectional or directional TV or Class A TV station, may begin
program tests upon notification to the FCC in Washington, DC provided
that within 10 days thereafter, an application for a license is filed
with the FCC in Washington, DC.

(2) The permittee of an FM station with a directional antenna system
must file an application for license on FCC Form 302-FM requesting
authority to commence program test operations at full power with the
FCC in Washington, D.C. This license application must be filed at least
10 days prior to the date on which full power operations are desired to
commence. The application for license must contain any exhibits called
for by conditions on the construction permit. The staff will review the
license application and the request for program test authority and
issue a letter notifying the applicant whether full power operation has
been approved. Upon filing of the license application and related
exhibits, and while awaiting approval of full power operation, the FM
permittee may operate the directional antenna at one half (50%) of the
authorized effective radiated power. Alternatively, the permittee may
continue operation with its existing licensed facilities pending the
issuance of program test authority at the full effective radiated power
by the staff.

its good..i was able to get it down past St. Augustine. It pretty strong over eastern Duval County but fair on the Southwest side..every now and then the 92.5 from alachua would bleed in on the southwest side.

Does anybody know where I can find a coverage map of WFJO that features the 54dBU and 60dBU contour of the station because Radio-Locator doesn't have one available for the Jacksonville Beach transmitter. The FCC has a coverage map of all radio stations in the United States but it only features the 60dBU coverage area.

In other unrelated news, the nationally-syndicated "Yolanda Adams Morning Show" and "CoCo Brother Show", which comes on in the evenings around 6 or 7 PM, will be coming to the Jacksonville market via WFJO.
