The "Movin" format

I hear about this station alot lately in other boards. Philly's jazz station 106.1 flipped to a "movin" format. Supposedly it's new rhythmic mixed in with old school. I don't know if new rhythmic hip hop is included, maybe just dance and r&b, I'm not quite sure. Anyone have any info on this? It kinda sounds like Jammin 105.9 in Austin. Do you see 94.1 "movin" to this type of format?

I've listened to the stream of the Movin' station in Seattle a few times based on the excitement I've seen for the format on other boards here. (http://movin925.com) I don't find it especially appealing and I'm not sure that it fills a hole in the SA market. But I also realize that it's a female-targeted format and I'm not female. ;)

If Movin' comes to San Antonio, it seems like the station in the market with the most to lose to it would be KSMG.

I can't see it arriving on an HD signal, either. At this stage, HD content needs to be enticing to drive the purchase of HD receivers. When was the last time you heard of a technology that had growth driven by female purchasers?

Isnt KTFM more targeted to females?

I'm on the outside looking in, but I would have guessed that KSMG is more heavily targeted toward females than KTFM, just based on imaging. Since the presence of "Delilah" at night is easily the surest indicator of a female focus, maybe KQXT laps both of them? :D

94.1 needs to do something because in my experience, the format just wont work here in San Antonio. Notice the big buzz about it at first? Well what is it like today? The buzz is gone and now-a-days its just another boring station.

Posted by: sdh483-I think San Antonio is ready for an alternavie rock station.

Umm NO! That's like saying S.A. is ready for another Rock station. It's not going to happen anytime soon-Thank God!!

Who knows, maybe BMP will do something with Jack and Jammin since both stations aren't doing well in there target demos (25-54). But then again, look how long BMP has kept Digital.

And for KSMG, very unlikely. BMP and Cox Radio are slow in making any type of changes. Take a look at Cox owned The Point in Houston....it's still there.

hey saradio. where do u get the idea that sa has too many rock stations? theres ONE for anybody under the age of 30! and 3 top 40 stations. and two acs. and two country stations. the hole is wide open.

I see no reason why San antonio cant support a good alternitive rock station, something to compete with KISS.

Hey ****** Bag, I never implied that we had too many Rock station. The problem is there's no room for another Rock station. Do we need to go through the history of Rock stations that have tried to compete with KISS?

I dont think there needs to be another Rock station like KISS, but a Alternitive Rock station would be great like 94.5 the buzz or 101X.

The reason why other rock stations had failed (Q 96 in the eraly 90s and more recently K-ROCK 102.7) because they were similar to KISS, plus KROCK mixed in classic rock with current rock, not a good combo. I say we need an alternative station becasue I believe we can support a good alternative station and it will bring some competition to KISS. I think this city is too saturated with hip hop music, which is currently on its downfall becasuse of its over-simplistic beats and dull and tired out lyrics. Alternative rock is on the rise once again, and has been since the early 2000s, but was neglected over hip hop. Did anyone watch the MTV video music awards? Most groups in a non hip hop/R&B category who won awards were rock groups. KISS may be too hard, even old for the younger rock audience. An alternative station targed at younger audiences who are tired of hip hop would be essential and would...sorta...fill the hole in diverse programming in San Antonio. Movin' would be a good format to replace Jammin or Magic, and alternative would be a good replacement for Z106.
