The music died at 4:23am on 97.3

Last three songs, Frank Sinatra - That's life, Eagles - Already Gone, Rolling Stones - Start Me Up, which was cut short at 4:23am when the simulcast joined Wall Street Journal This Morning. Jane Shannon wast first to mention the Simulcast of 97.3 during the 4:30am local newscast.

Probably one of the LAMEST format changes in Seattle radio history. What a way to disrepect all the years that KBSG was around.

!!!
I woke up early to hear what songs KBSG got to finish out with. Needless to say I was angered to already hear the "Wall Street Journal Report" in my ears.

On a related note, is that about the worst photo of Jane Shannon they could have taken? (MyNorthwest.com)

I'm glad someone logged it for us since they went and switched before the announced time.

From Yes.com (for historic record), here is the 4 am hour of "KIRO-FM" before the simulcast began. All music was broadcast in mono. It seems like Dave Logan was trying to say goodbye, too bad no one heard.

3:57 AM Chicago "Baby what a big surprise"
4:00 AM Diana Ross & the Supremes "Someday we'll be together" (gosh, I'll miss hearing Motown...)
4:03 AM Billy Joel "Movin' Out"
4:07 AM Norman Greenbaum "Sprit in the Sky"
4:11 AM Stevie Wonder "I wish" (will miss hearing this, too)
4:14 AM Frank Sinatra "That's Life"
4:17 AM The Eagles "Already Gone"
4:21 AM The Rolling Stones "start me up" (who programmed? KBSG-FM staff or KIRO staffer y'think?)

Well, I gotta give them credit for the last three songs. At that time of the morning especially. A perfect format change mix.

I heard "That's Life" Frank Sinatra and thought "That's weird." I never heard KBSG play this song before and I wonder why they would....oh crap! (rummaging through drawer, unwrapping blank cassette, slamming cassette in recorder, beginning recording.....)

This morning KIRO had as their top story the fact that they're switching to FM. The reporter who did it has no balls and basically ran the bosses quotes with no checking. Compared to Dave Ross who did an interview with the market VP. Dave put him on the spot about the mono broadcast, and the VP Gardner was stumped several times. Worth listening to the podcast on that tomorrow to see out OUT OF TOUCH the market manager, and the rest of KIRO is. I will ONLY listen to Ross, the news product has turned into puff, fluff, enough!

How do you disrespect a radio station that got lampooned time and time again for play the same 16 songs over and over again?

What a dumb way to change. BTW, pick up the DXing radios folks. You're going to listen to 1430 KBRC or 1030 KMAS from now on, because KJR only airs "80's music".

I doubt we get the signals from those stations in the greater Seattle area. I was doing night deliveries in the north for an Edmonds business several months ago and I would tune in to KBRC when in the Mount Vernon area. Good station. Nice variety.

Why did they decide to broadcast in mono?
No static from terrain or reflections off buildings.

And the signal is listenable for longer distances when it's in mono. But if you need to hear Dori in Stereo - just dial up the HD feed.
