So, let me get this straight... when someone says something positive about someone on this board... someone maybe you personally have a problem with, that person just has to be an anomaly? Maybe AmericanRumorBoy worked with Jim and - shocking - liked the guy! Imagine that.

And someone show me where it says Jim retired. I haven't seen that anywhere... except in an assumption by RumourMonger.

blah blah blah... but when someone says something positive about CC they get vilified.

Thanks for clarifying ilovescotch...

Your post says two things... 1)You probably do have a personal problem with Jim and 2)You're a fan of ClearChannel.

To each his own. If you like ClearChannel more power to you... but negative comments about an individual and negative comments about a company and their practices are two different things.

Granted, your comments weren't negative, per se, but it's easy to kick and mock a guy when he's down when he doesn't know who's kicking and mocking him, huh?

LaBarbara was let go to put the PD on the air. Cumulus likes it's PDs on air. All a cost cutting move.

I say LaBarbara will eventually end up on WDJO/Oldies 1160 with Ted and Dusty.

Classy sign-off today Jim---shame that creep kid steve mann mocked you on the way out-- you will be missed my friend

Creep Kid here!

If you're in radio, or have been, maybe you've talked over the intro of a song and inadvertantly realized that the lyrics somehow, good or bad, tie into what you're talking about.

Jim very eloquently said his goodbye and since he and I didn't talk on the air at the end of his shift like we normally do, I wanted to, in the first break of my show, acknowledge Jim's departure without being maudlin. I said, very sincerely, something along the lines "Jim Labarbara has left the building. You'll be missed, Jim".

Unfortunately, without realizing it until the words were out of my mouth, I did it over the intro of "You're No Good".

Yeah, I cringed. And I understood very quickly that it could be taken the way it was obviously taken by some.

Jim and I spent a good part of our time on the air good naturedly giving each other a hard time. I felt bad enough that I told him about the break the moment he walked back into the studio. He laughed. There was no malice intended in that break and he knew it.

Jim is my friend. I admire and respect him and feel lucky to have worked with him for 7 years. He will be missed.

Nice to see yah Steve on the forum. I would have listened but I was at work and my boss dont allow us to listen to the radio we can only do it when she is not thier. WGRR is the best radio station in all of Cincy I think.. I will miss not hearing jim on WGRR I looked forward to listeing to him every Monday through Friday. I like Keith but it will feel strange for awhile having him in Jim's time slot.

Steve: Those that know you could never think you did that on purpose. The Prof knew what you really meant and that is all that matters.

Damn that was fast Jim is already gone from WGRR'S website.

I just loooooove how someone can hear something on the air and assume that the person behind the mic is a creep. But I read it right here on the Internet, so it must be true. <sarcasm>

It's hard enough to say goodbye to a friend, let alone in a very public way. Anti-em, if you had listened to WGRR at all during any of Jim and Steve's previous crossovers, you would have known right off that it wasn't a malicious remark. In the future, if you don't know the person, consider refraining from name calling. Steve is a class individual, and I feel justified in saying so because he is a friend of mine - as is Prof.

Jim is a talented individual with a legacy, no one disputes that. I wish him all the best and hope he lands on his feet.

I would like to state for the record that the above comments from Steve "The" Mann are totally untrue! When B and G were in the same building there was many a night I would have to rush down to the G studio to break up an altercation between these two gentlemen. Steve would brandish a knife and Prof would be wildly swinging his motorcycle helmet to try and defend himself from Steve's tempered steel. Then there was the night that Jim slipped a mickey into Steve's water (vodka) bottle causing The Mann to spend the whole night claiming to be Elton John and Bernie Taupin's love child.(The site of him balled up in a corner in his underwear singing "Tiny Dancer" will haunt my memories forever.) Make up hid their black eyes while they healed but the emotional scars I sustained will last forever. I feared for my own safety when these two "professionals" were in our building and I was very relieved to see them vacate the Reading Road studios! With that said I'd like to wish Jim the very best because that's what he is.

Something I never saw after they vacated Reading, from either of them. Oh well, the fact remains that Prof's signoff was eloquent, and Steve's tribute was heartfelt. I still maintain that they're both class acts; it's too bad that you have those memories. Mine are quite different.

Well..I got the joke. :)

You're right... I am a fool, I keep posting on these boards like it's of any consequence in my daily life.

I'm sorry Steve--- I was reacting to what I heard. To me, the intent was clear, but if you say it was innocent I accept that

cumulus has no class......they should have handled the labarbara matter better,,,,,,BUT that's the way they do things.....

he still has legs......

if not.....sirius or xm should pick him up.......

Prof taught myself and many other "youngins" the ropes of the business. Of course they were not without the enjoyment of his many stories that included Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, and countless other athletes and musicians. There were many times you could not understand what Prof was saying as he continued to talk to you while he was walking away in a mumble. As one who was recently turned out by the corporate monster that showed it's head in Cincinnati in the last year I know exactly what he is going through. Jim is one of not only the nicest people in radio, but one of the nicest people period. If he does not make a return to the airwaves (very unlikely) he will surely spend his days riding the mean streets on the HOG or the not so mean streets on the Vespa....Ride on Prof! See you at the next buffet!
