The Mystery of "Far Eastern Telecasters"

Anyone who follows Houston TV has undoubtedly come across two LPs owned by "Far Eastern Telecasters" -- KJIB-LP and KVDO-LP. As far as I can tell, neither of these stations have ever been on the air.

I have been doing some digging into "Far Eastern Telecasters". According to this document on the FCC website, their address is 13999 S. West Bayshore Drive, Traverse City, MI. Incidentally, this address corresponds to the studios of WLDR-FM.

KTWL's owner, Roy E. Henderson, also has this very same same address.

Roy Henderson has had a long history in the radio business, especially in Houston. He owns several radio stations across the country. In Houston, he owns the aforementioned KTWL, and he also owned KULF for years, even though it was off the air for most of that time and even had no operable transmitter for a while. I had no idea, however, that he owned any TV stations, let alone two essentially non-existent ones.

He has come on this forum before, and his username is rrgroup. I would be very interested in hearing an explanation of all this from him.

Hit video tv 25

Well, lets have some fun. KVDO-LP is now "Houston Hit Video TV 25" -- an online streaming music video channel in the spirit of 1980s era K05HU. See www.kvdo.webs.com

Someperson, please contact me at [email protected]

You got KVDO on the air? Congratulations, Joe! Doubt it'll reach me, but I'll rescan the converter box for grins tonight.

Are you going to move 25 to the digital band allotment 29, or are you abandoning it at the demise of the analog signal?

KVDO TV-25 is streaming music videos online at www.kvdo.webs.com It is not actually on the air -- not yet? I'm in contact with a lawyer representing the licensee, and have been given a tentative green light subject to a contract being signed with the licensee. Waiting to receive the paperwork. I don't plan to use the existing tower location, but rather STA it to a new location atop an office building and operate with lightbulb power.

This is really just for fun. Most people get their TV from Comcast, Universe, or a DISH; these folks will never see it. Analog TVs will get the channel, as well as folks who rescan their new HD televisions (and its sad, but how many people actually know how--or even bother--to do it?). If the channel survives after the demise of analog, it will be via online streaming. The new smart TVs have ethernet connections, and there are millions of the Roku-like devices out there hooked to both analog and digital TVs. Folks with these devices can already tune in my channel anywhere in the world! I believe that in the long run, as the FCC takes away more and more of the broadcast spectrum for broadband devices, more and more people will get their TV programming via online streaming. That is the future of TV!
