The National Anthem on WDCX 990-AM

I was listening to my local 990-AM (WNTY Southington, CT - Kool Radio) this morning and they were having technical problems and went off the air several times. Two other stations were coming in on 990-AM - one of which was playing a slow version of The National Anthem just before 6AM. Once "The Anthem" finished I heard them ID the station as "WDCX Rochester and translator 107.1 FM." - Is it normal for WDCX to play The National Anthem? I thought most stations only play "The Anthem" at Sign off/Sign On. I thought WDCX was a 24 hour radio station.

Alot of the CRawford Broadcasting AM stations will do it at 6am.. KLZ Denver does it.. they call it a "Crawford Broadcasting God & Country Station"

Even our little 50 watt LPFM (WNHN-LP, 94.7) plays it daily --- at noon, IIRC......
And I use it to sign on my Part 15 FM at 9 AM on weekends......!!!

Ray Knight ("N.R. Ray") on XM's old "America" classic country channel used to play it at noon, too, as a show of support for the president at the time, George W. Bush.

Re: KLZ. You'd think a station billing itself as a "God and Country Station" would play one of our informal national anthems, "America the Beautiful" or "God Bless America," since both mention God in their lyrics, while the official anthem doesn't, at least not in the verse that is usually the only one sung. God does enter "The Star-Spangled Banner in a later verse," as he does as the "Author of Liberty" in the final verse of "America," the song based on "God Save The Queen/King" that doesn't mention a deity in its first verse.

Of course, Crawford might have a problem with playing "God Bless America," since it was the work of a non-Christian songwriter, Irving Berlin.

Another drive-by poster taking a thread OT. Things boring in CT?

Hopefully as part of fixing their "technical problems", WNTY will begin actually using their legally licensed nighttime power level, instead of running their full-power daytime signal all night, as they've been doing for months now.
