The National (CBC) now in HD; when will CTV be next?

In case you don't know, the CBC's award-winning flagship news program "The National" is now the first national newscast in Canada broadcasting in HDTV. But we haven't heard from CTV on whether or not their news will be in HD next.

I guess the reason why the holdup is because Lloyd Robertson would look really old in high-def, unless they increase the makeup budget for him. I think the Toronto CTV news will be first, then slowly down the line to the other CTV O&O's before we see "CTV National News" in HD, probably around late 2008-early 2009.

CTV Toronto has a very old control room, the heart of which is an '80s vintage CDL switcher. Somehow, I doubt it's HD capable. ;)

They are very long overdue on a new control room. The upside of that is, when they do finally build a new digital/HD control room, they can (hopefully) look at the mistakes of others and make better choices.

I was having trouble keeping an '80s vintage CDL switcher working in the '80s. Hard to imagine someone could keep one going today!

Things are a bit of a mess right now.

Citynews (Toronto) was the first to broadcast in HD, but CRTC woldn't allow CTV to own city.

With "Rogers City" being forced out of 299 Queen West, does this mean Rogers gets to leave the building and take the HD with them...or does it stay behind for use with CTV national news?
(leaving Citynews to no longer be in HD, unless Rogers has their own...)
