The NBA might be back on CBS in 2008-2009 season??

The NBA might be back on CBS in 2008-2009 NBA Season??

If ABC/ESPN doesn't renew the TV right deal with the NBA??

If CBS offer the NBA lots of money to broadcast the basketball games on the #1 most watched network with CSI and more.

Trying to make CBS number #1 in college and professional basketball.

CBS like to boost their ratings on sports.

Thats really a pretty dumb statement. If ABC/ESPN don't renew with the NBA it might go back to NBC or it might go to Fox or hell it might even go to My Network or The CW!

No I don't think CBS wants the NBA. They rather stick with NCAA Hoops during the fall/winter months. I would like to see NBC getting back the NBA. That would be nice to see. Then we can hear that theme song that NBC used for NBA on NBC.

Cite your source, please

Relying on rumor and speculation is not acceptable even on a message board.

CBS has a sizable sports schedule already -- college football, NFL, college basketball, pro golf, NCAA Final Four, The Masters.

Here's a good idea....

Personally, I think that if ABC won't renew their NBA contract when it expires, maybe the NBA should move to My Network TV. After all, my hometown station (WBQD-LP Davenport) will be airing syndicated Bulls games thruout this current season....I even have an idea for the network if it airs any sports--My Sports TV, or better yet--My NBA TV, with the square logo except with "NBA" in place of "network", and maybe the square which is cut into four quarters could be colored differently. Also, I have another idea: Provided that Fox will air Major League Baseball next summer in 2007, it should share duties with My Network TV--kinda like one network ending up with a baseball doubleheader one week, and the other the next week. Now that would make sense!

Yeah, explain that to the folks at "NBA TV" - the NBA-owned network... And by the by, so your "My" station is airing Bulls games... Like there weren't any WB or UPNers airing any NBA games last season?

I think I hear Pat Cook from a ways down the hall yelling "This looks like another episode of Joseph Gallant Speculation Theatre!"

College football is not on when ABC does the NBA. Ditto NFL except during the playoffs. College basketball is a Saturday thing except during March Madness, when you have a point (but where the NBA might wanna jump ship anyway, since March Madness outdraws them and makes people forget about the NBA). ABC managed shuffling golf and basketball, but I don't know how much pre-Masters golf they had.

Or rather, "then we'll be tortured with".

NBC, the CW, and (after football season) Fox seem to have fairly clean plates - especially with NBC recently ditching the AFL, which they brought in to replace the NBA. However, they then took the opportunity to expand the NHL's presence on the network. That leaves ABC and the non-Big 3 networks.

It would certainly be interesting to see Fox do the NBA, and also the natural next step, as the NBA is the only Big 4 sport (however defined) Fox has never covered. You ever listen to FSN's NBA music? Imagine that on a regular Fox network broadcast with Joe Buck (imagine him calling NBA games!) or Marv Albert with the call...

I doubt CBS will have any room for the NBA.

CBS has College Basketball, Golf, and the NFL. (THAT's ALL THEY NEED!)

NBC has a slight chance if they can afford it and they have some room

since they only have 9 dates with the NHL and only 10 golf dates.

Right now, it's ESPN on ABC (Not Simply ABC) that looks to be loaded for

NBA past it's contract.

If the CW is looking to make a name for itself, this is they way to do it.

I would think any possibility of the CW getting the NBA would be almost nil...only until you consider that Time Warner already does a great job of covering games on TNT.

With that said, I think most of the coverage will ultimately stay on ESPN and ABC.

NO IT WILL NOT.

Look, MyNetwork will be nothing more than a soap opera network. DEAL WITH IT. I know people don't like it (Many of whom are on this board). But I also know of people who undoubtedly DO like it. So, deal with it.

And the idea of the NBA going to The CW is just plain STUPID! The NHL has a better chance of landing there than the NBA does (And lest we forget how the NHL and ESPN parted ways to boot). Same goes for the AFL on Friday Nights (Though I think those have by and large been dealt to FSN, the sister cable outlet of Fox Sports for those who don't know or don't have an FSN outlet in their area).

The bottom line is this. The NBA and Disney will renew their deal. If they don't, I'd be utterly SHOCKED (And I don't think I'd be the only one who would be either). NBC won't even be a player (Lest we forget how quickly the NBA bailed on them in the middle of their last deal to go to Disney).

'Nuff said....

Cheers :D

The obvious solution is not to think of it as a network at all, but more like the Edsel of television.

Many (self included) think the Edsel failed after its 1960 redesign because it was too far ahead of the times in terms of styling and features. Not so with MNTV; I tend to think of it more as a Corvair, or maybe as a Pacer - ugly looking thing.

Whatever, I was just thinking in terms of massive failures. You could easily cite New Coke, the XFL...

Now you can yes. But I still say give it a few years. They'll have to add new telenovelas eventually (If for no other reason than to keep Univision at bay and to keep people from flocking to Telemundo & TeleFutura with the audio muted :) *LOL!*).

Just my opinion :D

Cheers :D

Actually they may stay on ESPN/ABC. There was an article a few weeks ago stating that ABC was pleased with the performance of their saturday night college football telecasts so there was thought of continuing sports on saturday primetime after football season and a possiblity was to go back to the NBA to change the contract to allow ABC to show NBA games on Saturday night.

Um, that's exactly part of the way it's set up - they introduce new telenovelas every three months, retiring the old ones.

I got a idea for the NBA give Saturday Night Basketball Coverage, Eastern Conference Finals, 2010, 2012 and 2014 NBA Finals to ABC and Sunday Daytime Basketball Coverage, Western Conference Finals, NBA All-Star Games, 2011, 2013 and 2015 NBA Finals to CBS or FOX.

Wonder if Fox, if it ever took the NBA plunge, would use a robotic (Transformers/GoBots tyoe) basketball player the way they do it with the NFL? :)
