The Needham Candelabra Tower

I was in the Needham area Saturday night (09/19) and after sunset, only one of the antennas atop the tri-cornered candelabra tower next to the Sheraton Hotel in Needham was lighted. We all know that the former channel 38 has migrated to the CBS tower on Cedar Street. One of these days, the former channel 56 now 41 will probably be moved to the self-supporting WHDH tower; this may be in the process of happening already, leaving only the WFXT-DT antenna on that structure. How difficult would it be to dismantle the tri-corner hat atop the tower, leaving a single UHF antenna up there? And would it pay CBS to remove the low-number VHF antenna no longer in use on Cedar Street, thus diminishing the windload?

Only one antenna was lit because there was only one antenna up there. They're in the process of taking down the old analog antennas and top-mounting WFXT-DT and WLVI-DT antennas. WLVI isn't moving to the channel 7 tower, at least not its main antenna - that way Sunbeam has two transmitter sites in case something happens to one of them. And there will be someone, at some point, who wants space on the third tine of the candelabra and is willing to pay ATC's price.

Actually WFXT is already top mounted, they changed out their analog antenna for the new digital one at the same time they upgraded to 780kW. That is the one top mounted antenna that is still there, and I believe on that same arm below is their old low power DT antenna which is still there for a backup.

The analog 38 and 56 antennas are now gone.
