So, the other day, I was thinking; Most stations revolve around a top 40 or so list of some sort, yet somehow, radio stations still manage to fill up a 100 top songs list on yes dot com. Conveniently for me, I am sort of a radio rocket scientist when it comes to these types of things, so I was able to figure out on my own that this was able to happen due to the fact that certain recurrents, mix show, and specialty show song plays help to fill up the 100 Top Songs tracked on sites like yes dot com...etc.
HOWEVER:
Figuring this fact out only lead me to another radio scientific question; IF most (current CHR) formats have a Top 40 or so list and are only able to fill or exceed a 100 top songs list by having old school recurrents, mix shows, and specialty programming featuring "extra" music, BUT Hot 97.5 ONLY plays NEW hits and DOESN'T have any old school recurrents, mix shows, or specialty music shows featuring extra music, then is it still possible for them to have 100+ songs in rotation? ..And if so, how?
SO I INVESTIGATED:
I went to yes dot com, did a little cheap research and to my surprise, I discovered - THEY ONLY HAVE 71 SONGS IN ROTATION (according to yes dot com)! It actually doesn't even reach the max of 100 songs in Top Songs - it stops at 71! (Actually, as of right now, it is at 70, so they must have dropped a song since Saturday (and I believe one of the tracked songs in there might not even be an actual playlist song)). Wow! Now I must admit that this is odd.
By the way, does anyone remember when everyone thought Hot 97.5 was going to be a Hot AC? I wonder if they could still pull this off with all modern hits? Well, I shouldn't say "all modern". After all, they do go back as far as 2007, so...
TOP 71!!
According to most people, less is more. Therefore, this station should be one of the #1 top hit stations of the U.S.!
