the new 106.5

The coyote .....what is going on ? it was the wolf yesterday

Lol :D This is crazy. I just put on 106.5 to see if this was true. Guess the people from 96.9 The Wolf in Charleston said something. As you can get 96.9 out of Charleston well around Myrtle Beach. As for Cumulus they just wasted Ads in the Sun News for 106.5 The Wolf if they were going to change the name. I still wonder why the name change. Sucks to be Cumulus.

I bet charleston owns that name in south carolina? thats the only thing that makes sense

So you think Citadel has the rights to the name "The Wolf". It says Cumulus Myrtle Beach below your post. Do you work for them if you don't mind me asking?

I am pretty sure that Citadel owns the name The Wolf and so they were forced to change their name as well.

Yeppers kinda reminds me of a station that was once in Newberry who got a nice paper from a Charleston station telling them to quit using Bubba!!!!!! Man has it been that long!!!!! I feel old now... CC1

What's with naming stations after animals anyway, true they are using some first names also in some cases but shouldn't a station be named for something that means something to the area where it is located, seems to me that would be much better than just a name.

I am not a big country fan, but even I was suprised to see 106.5 named the Wolf. Since 106.5 is a station on the South Carolina Coast, I think it would make alot more sense to name the station something like "106.5 The Shark" and use a promotion such as "Todays Killer Country". If we lived in the mountians, or the upstate, I could understand a station being titled "The Wolf" or "The Coytote", but not on the Grand Strand. It just does not make alot of sense.

Atleast Cumulus gave 103.1 a decent name when they threw the Oldies on that frequency. Sunny 103.1. The name sounds nice, simple, and a is a name that can be identified with the area.

Your right about the name. Gator 107.9 has a good name. I don't know about naming a country station the shark. But what about Charleston, they are close to the water and they have a station called 96.9 The Wolf. Sure the Charleston stations also serve towns like Summerville, North Charleston, etc which are more inland. As for 106.5 I would of just called it Kick 106.5 Playing 106 Mins of Country Music and called it a day.

Ken, Gatekeeper, both of you have a point. I guess the Coyote is going to be around for awhile however. I hope I am wrong.

I'm starting a new trend of Country station........It's "The Gopher." It will target married men and new company hires. It's an un-touched demo.

Sorry...

Apparently, I was logged into one of the computers at the studios.....YIKES!!!!!!!

I did not start this thread - and for the person who asked, yes, I'm still employed by Cumulus/Myrtle Beach, but only in an extremely casual part-time basis.

Do we know the reason why 106.5 dropped the wolf name? I would think someone out their would know the reason.

As far as I know, it's because of "The Wolf" in Charleston. I'm not privvy to the inside talk, as I'm out of the loop, but that's my best educated guess. If the signal was still on 103.1, I don't think it'd be an issue. However, with the format being moved to 106.5, the signal penetrates much deeper into Georgetown County.

Yes, the former WSYN has a good signal all the way down to Awendaw (halfway between Charleston and Georgetown).

It can often be heard throughout the Charleston area on even weak skip days, because their transmitter is only in Pawleys Island, even though WJNI at 106.3 is next door.

So how much did Citadel sue Cumulus over the naming rights for "The Wolf"? This just comes up as I was told the other day 96.9 The Wolf sued over the naming rights.

I also bring this up as Charleston and Myrtle Beach both used to have the same name of radio stations way before The Wolf name came up on 96.9. As Myrtle Beach has Wave 104.1 and Charleston used to have 96 Wave. Why was the name "Wave" able to be in both markets? Oh and just to think about it. 106.5 and 96.9 used to be both called "Sunny" with 106.5 being oldies and 96.9 AC. Strange 106.5 and 96.9 can't have the same name "The Wolf" in this time.
