The New 106.7 The Beat

After three years of trying to compete with WYCD, The Fox went back to its den. As of 12PM They are now 106.7 The Beat Of Detroit. playing a cross between CHR/R&B.

I rather be listening to 106.7 the beat then that country I hate country western music so I'm not complaning about the new 106.7 the beat sound cool man

I like what they are playing so far. However, I do have one pet peeve: I don't think Dan Fogelberg's "Same Old-lang-syne" belongs on a Rhythmic AC. I hope they take notes at what happened at WISX when they tried to throw in Bon Jovi and got a train wreck. Just stick to Donna, Madonna, GaGa and Justin, please.

Funny cause I had a dream a few nights ago that 106.7 FM format was changed back to classic rock. I guess I got psychic powers.

I turned on 106.7 FM this morning twice and I heard music that did not sound like country.

Country music is not my favorite I like Top 40 and hip-hop radio.

I'm glad people are enjoying this. This is almost how I felt when we FIRST got Movin 97.5 here in Phx... But they're once again sounding pretty much ok to me.

At least 106.7 probably will not turn out to be like Movin. . .. .. but I assume that if they do have a wide playlist right now, it may start shrinking down the road.

They have there entire playlist up at there website......yea its not that big of a plylist right now, try 209 songs. But I am lovin' it. A lot of the songs played I have not heard in years! Its like DRQ from 1996 all over again! I hope it succeeds. 106.7 has been in a rut for the last ten years after flipping W4 to classic hits.

As for the country leader in the Detroit, 99.5 WYCD. I expect that it will be the number one station overall in the market. Currently it has a 5.2 share and 928,000 in cume. The Fox had 2.6 and like 577,000 in cume. WYCD will end up getting a high 6 or 7 come the september PPM. That is as long as no other station flips to country.

Well, if any indication, WDTW will do fine just like WDRQ and WHYT did in the past if they stick to their game plan. And like the two predecessors, I hope they spike in some Dance cuts. After all Detroit is still a mecca for the House/Techno scene.

Meanwhile one has wonder if 106.7 will help or hurt WKQI, and from the way it looks, they might have to scale back a little on the Rhythmic product unless Clear Channel is planning a "Churbanizing" Detroit radio cluster, along with R&B/Hip-Hop WJLB and Urban AC WMXD.

Yep those "psychic powers" look a little off, since classic rock isn't what they flipped to.

You didn't hear any country music because, well....they stopped playing country when they flipped formats. Things usually happen that way. Weird.

Never could have figured out you are a hip-hop fan after reading past posts of yours. I like the new format. Nice little twist in the market. Might be the best move CC has made with that station since killing W4. It'll be interesting to see how it's recieved.

And that's a great idea for another thread: Who will flip to country, and try for a piece of the pie? Could it be Magic?

Flipping to country isn't worth it. History has proven that. Go back several years to the day W4 left 106.7. Everyone thought for sure that WYCD would shoot from that upper 3 to like a 6 maybe 7 share since they were going to get all of W4 listeners. Problem with that was, WYCD had all those listeners, already. Just for longer times listening. End result? WYCD went from upper 3's to upper 4's.

The return of Country failed on 106.7 because all it was, was a second choice to WYCD. It never was a first choice for anyone. The Fox might have had a 2 something, but that doesn't mean that WYCD will gain two shares and gather a 6 or 7 share. It means WYCD's TSL will go up some. MAYBE gather a half a share.

It's just not worth flipping another signal to Country.

Sounds great! Went from "Burning Up" by Madonna to "Kanye's "Heartless" into "Make You Sweat" (La La La La Long) Inner Circle. Good to hear stuff like that resurrected.

Statement from 106.7 regarding format chage

Well, at least they were honest.

I've also noticed that ever since WDTW's flip to Rhythmic Hot AC that WKQI have started to fine tune their Top 40/CHR direction and has begun to move away from its Rhythmic lean.

This station did not do well in the September 2009 PPM ratings for Detroit.
