The new 1540 The Farm!!

I see that WNIO/1390 will be dropping their standards format (which originated on the 1540 frequency back in 1995) to go with an all-sports format soon, and signed up with Fox Sports Radio. Which would leave WSOM/600 as the lone standards voice in Youngstown.

My prediction: a classic hits/oldies "WANR 1570 The Blizzard"...

Maybe older skewing oldies (50's/60's instead of 70's/80's classic hits), sitting between Big 106 and WSOM demographically.

I'm just guessing here, as Chris just sent me as a press release the same thing he posted in this thread. :D

1570 WANR is currently teasing their new format change. Fox Sports Radio will be movin to 1390 WNIO, as they change formats from adult standards. In its place, 1570 WANR will become 1570 The Blizzard featuring a Warren based News, Sports, Classic Top 40 format similar to WAKR in Akron, OH. "I'm trilled to be able to bring back a good radio station for Warren, OH. with great music, news, sports and local information. And to top it off, some legendary radio personalties. It goes nicely with what were doing with 1540 The Farm as well". Said Whiplash Radio President Chris Lash

The new 1570 The Blizzard debuted on WANR in Warren, OH today. The station now features a classic hits format using the slogan line "News, Sports, Classic Top 40". The station is anchored by legendary disc jockeys Jim Zippo, Larry James, Eric Chase, John "Records" Landecker, and Rick Dees.

Extensive news coverage is anchored by owner Chris Lash, and Marc Means. The station's new website and streaming will be up later today.

Chris, just what is the weather guy's name? Doctor Doctor? Doctor Thayer? Doctor Doctor Thayer? Doctor Pepper? :D

(And for that matter, who is he? :D)

Loving the stream. It sounds like you have the first glitches ironed out.

Tweaking daily, with Profit automation. Dr. Dr. Thayer, his real name, is a professor, who changed his name to Doctor. He's a meterologist, who at one point was a very successful 60's jock, known as The Chucker. He worked at WKBW Buffalo, Miami, New Orleans etc. in his hey dey. He also purchased one of my Florida stations year ago, and that's how our relationship began.

Excellent, Chris.

There is a bit of on-air confusion with the name, but it makes sense if you know he changed his name to Doctor!

Thank you for the back story...

Veteran Youngstown sportscaster John Caparanis, long-time sports director of Cumulus sports WBBW/1240 “ESPN 1240″, will moves his weekday “Tip of the Cap” show to Whiplash Radio's new classic hits WANR/1570 Warren “The Blizzard”.
