"The new 97 1 the Tower" (The Tower?)

"Bob and Tom all morning, classic hits all day. 90 minutes of classic hits on the Bob and Tom After-Party." So what's new about this station (Except for the name?) Where's David when you need him?

Well the only difference I've found so far is...the name change. There still saying classic hits, and still playing the same classic hits they were before. The 97 min of music is kind of cool...with no talk, all music. However if they start to play the same songs in that time frame it will become boring and old sounding quick.

Welcome "The Tower" Nashville

Tower is found near towel in the dictionary. Maybe Cumulus should throw in the towel.

"The new 97.1 The Tower. Go ahead, caller."

"Hey, I am calling from Donelson. Love what you did with the radio station."

"But caller, we did nothing but change the name. We still play the same stale classic hits over and over again. Our next Tower music sweep features Jackson Browne, Bob Seger, Elton John and many of the same artists we played last hour."

Well they did change voices for the immaging. Maybe it should be the leaning tower of (incert favorite word here) because it will fall flat on its face.

The Tower? They must be kidding. They've used up every other slogan and now they're naming themselves after broadcasting equipment! According to a recently-leaked memo, here are some of their future slogans:
The new 97.1--the Marconi Talking Box!
The new 97.1--the Tesla Coil!
The new 97.1--the Excessively-Clipping Optimod!
The new 97.1--the Gates Mono Board with Rotating Pots!
The new 97.1--the Free-Ware Music Scheduler We Downloaded From the Net!
The new 97.1--the 6-Bay Antenna Tuned to Our Transmitter!

i have a soft spot for those mono gates with the BIG rotating pots..i can still feel those in my hands..and that BIG rca mike...couple of BIG gates turntables..a five slot spotmaster...gettin' a little teary eyed now...better grab a beer.....but your point well taken..i don't know who or when it was decided to name radio stations after objects, or places..i like the old deal where KROX 103 was KAY ROX 103...made owners and pd's try for call signs that sounded KOOL..i'd call it 97Q or Q97..at least that would stand out from all the other "THE'S "

W-R-2-Q

WR-DOUBLE Q

97-1 RQ2

BUT..THE TOWER? maybe it's sour grapes from the ex-imaging guy, but I just don't see it lasting long..The Tower just doesn't sound like people will remember it or say it..Is it me?

97 point one "The Juicer"
97-1 "The Lean Mean Grilling Machine"
97.1 "Hoveround FM"

Sorry..must be all those infomercials..jeesh

just so i can get a feel for the kind of money these guys make with these decisions..just who would have the sayso in naming it the tower..and what kind of money does an "xpert" like that pull down in todays market..

un-freaking-believable: smells like stunt...unless the cloud people failed to register a domain.

Don't see it being a stunt by pointing to a competitor... I think they were hijacked!

I thought is smelled of "stunt" too. But think about it--who would be stupid enough to stunt without changing the format? The whole idea is to do something outrageous to get people talking--like going all Britney or Polka rap.

I can see the decision makers meeting now..."Let's see, we're stuck in 15th place and sinking fast, what can we do?"

"I've got it! Let's change the name to 'The Tower'...Same ol tired format, same songs you can hear on 4 other radio stations in town, but listeners will love the name and it will rocket us to the top so we can compete with The Rock and JACK."

"Yeah, that's it!! Brilliant!" "Let's give you a raise and put you over another region." "Call Dallas and tell them we've got another brilliant mind on the way up." "Sebastian is only good for another couple of months anyway!"

I do like the concept of naming the station after equipment. In 6 months they can change it to "97.1-The Transmitter"..or my favorite..."97.1 The STL"...

Me, I tend to associate "Tower" and "music" and "Nashville" with the failed, bankrupt retail music chain that had locations on West End and at Opry Mills. Now that's certainly the association I want for my music station.

As Bugs Bunny once so elequently put it, "What a bunch of maroons!"

Okay so i've been listening to this station let's see we have a mix of 70's 80's...wonder if there gonna mix in some 60's and 90's that would be cool. However, there playing the same songs that Jack, Mix 929, The Rock, The Wolf (When they decide to play rock and call it country) and V102.5

Can we get a station in Nashville that's like no other station around...we have way to many Classic Rock/Classic Hit stations.

Ideas?

Man I have never seen a station or company so universally hated as Cumulus and 97.1. No one even wants to defend it on this board! There are more defenders for WNSR… don’t they also get better ratings? Guess you get what you give.
