The New B93's Morning Buzz.....kill

What is B93 thinking? Has anybody heard this new 'morning buzz'? That's awsome... a play on the stations name..buzz...like thats not straight out of the 80's...and, listen, im not trying to be rude, but KOSO is not offering a good product in the morning. Infact, the show is down right awful. I have heard better morning shows on the weekend at college stations.

KOSO/KHOM

If my aging brain is recalling correctly KOSO's roots began with KHOM a low level Turlock station with their self supporting tower near the corner of West Main and Lander Ave in Turlock. I recall that the tower was close to a local church that complained loudly of RF/ audio from the station infiltrating their sound system during services.

Upon the sale of the station it was moved to the corner of Carpenter Rd. and West Main west of Patterson. The first studios were in a single wide mobile home which was parked inside a large quonset type building on the property. Later on the property owner built a small home on the corner of the property which KOSO modified for their studios which they occupied for many years before moving into Modesto. I understand that KOSO has with the past year or so has abandoned their Mt. Oso transmitting site in favor of a valley site near Manteca. (The original site of KQKK Manteca).

What is everyone's thoughts on B93's Lunch Hour Show: THE RETRO BISTRO? I think it sounds pretty good. Kind of reminds me of KHOP's failed 80's Format PLANET 95 back between 2000 and 2002? Lots of songs I haven't heard in years, a mix of Pop AND Rock Hit with some R&B.

I see on the FCC site that they have a CP for a site up on the mountain. Not sure if it's for an aux, main or neither.

More trivia - the KOSO calls signified their transmitter location on Mt. Oso, but for 100 points, who knows the significance of the previous KHOM calls? And as a bonus question, what type of enclosure was used to house the transmitter on top of Mt. Oso?

Strictly a random guess here as I have absolutely no idea, but: HOM = Heart of Modesto? or Home of (something that starts with an M). lol

Dunno...

The transmitter on OSO was in a horrible little sheet metal building the looked a lot like a tool shed.

no it wasnt a metal shed it really was a Granny Goose Trailer (Removed from the back of a truck). I know I worked up on the hill in it several times over the years....

That's even funnier!! I just remember that RCA up there and the old antennas laying on the ground. They later installed a Continental solid state job, but I guess they left the RCA in place as an aux.

Very close. The original KHOM was also in a house on Lander in Turlock. KHOM stood for House of Music.

Correctamundo Greg. It did look like a metal shed though. It had been painted silver, but you could still see the Granny Goose picture & logo insignia when you look at the side of the tiny building at the just the right angle.

Originally the station had a huge old 1500 watt Baur transmitter, then a bunch of us hauled up a compact (at the time) RCA 3KWer when the station was approved to increase power in the early 80's. It was tight, but they both fit, with the Baur as a backup, along with the STL & processing.
