"THE NEW" BEAT IN BAMA

Down in Anniston, AL, SUNNY 104.3/WSYA-AM along with FM Translators W282BD Anniston and W256BH Oxford switched to the new WGBZ -THE BEAT. THE BEAT is an Urban Hip-Hop format on 3 different dials, 1340AM, 104.3FM and 99.1FM. Local resident DJ Steen best known from Mixtape TV is the PD. This gives the area a 2nd FM choice for Urban besides 95.7 JAMZ out of Birmingham.

1) Jamz isn't heard/received reliably in Anniston to matter.

2) The WSYA-AM feeding the two translators is actually on 1490...the message board post you borrowed this from was sourced by an online newspaper article that got the frequency wrong itself.

3) This is a good development for urban listeners in that community, one that previously only had 'Hip-Hop 1120' WHOG--a 500 watt daytimer. Because of engineering changes to the Birmingham market, I've always thought that area of Alabama could its own localized urban outlets on FM. Perhaps creative use of translators will bring some urban radio love to Gadsden--maybe by this WGBZ outfit.

***rises eyebrow*** Well, see how well this station does. My parents now reside in the area and will be visiting them soon, so I'll see how well this setup sounds with my own two ears before I make a judgment.

Actually, WBHJ was actually audible in the Anniston/Oxford area until the shifted and downgraded their frequency from 100kw to 12kw on Red Mountain in 2006. The downgrading of the power allowed 95.5 to bleed over the 95.7 frequency.
