Bill, I guess its a personal taste kind of thing but I hated reverb with a passion! That's why I preferred WIBG over WABC ... If you have good presentation you don't need reverb! So I'm glad its missing.

Sadly, I guess you'd roll over and play dead if you ever listened to WLNG? Now there's a full-fledged, full service station with that "memorable" 60's Top 40 sound - complete with reverb! They're a fun listen not only for the music but for the personalities. With as much reverb as they run and their signature processing I'd guess you'd be chewing nails and spitting rust after five minutes of listening to them.

HAHA Bill... Been there...done that. WLNG is still bookmarked on my MP3 player and every now and then when I wanna hear an honest-to-goodness Mom & Pop operation I "tune" them in. And they are an interesting listen.

WABC <@@CHIME!!!@@> WABC chime time is 21 minutes after the Big Hour of 5 O'clock!

The next question is what about standards? How can New York City not have standards?

NY does have standards, via suburban WHLI - Hempstead. The station gets about a half share in the NY ratings, but is a very, very low biller because there is not much ad business for people in their 70's.
I heard this sation was mostly talk.

And is it by chance an affiliate of Timeless Favorites? Which isn't standards. It's "easy oldies" at best with a few new performances of standards from this decade, if they're even still bothering with that.

I'm glad you like the all-male airstaff. The old CBS-FM never had a woman with a regular airshift, only as fill-ins. CBS-FM and its PDs didn't want women behind the mic. The ratings proved it.

The stations that have been #1 in market #1 have women with regular airshifts: Hot 97, 98.7 Kiss FM, Z100, KTU, New York's 106.7.

Well lots of stations that don't approach #1 have women jocks with regular airshifts too.....WPLJ, WAXQ, WQCD, WOR...

And its worth it to note that the old CBS-FM built an airstaff around noteworthy Top 40 jocks from the 60's (and their were no women to choose from)....so granted things have changed, but that was the landscape from which they had to choose. Who do you feel they should hire now? Who's the best fit for the station with a bit of a name in NYC?
Valerie Smaldone? (would she leave LTW???); JJ Kennedy (might be a good call); Carol Miller (leave AOR???);
I don't know if there are many "heritage" names beyond those. Susan Leigh Taylor maybe?
