Does anybody else think 96.7 The Coast sounds exactly like WEBE 108? Music-wise the exact samething?

It won't be the first time a CT station tried to act as a spoiler to another station. 104.1 in Hartford has been in that role as an AC, hot AC and rhythmic CHR with varying degrees of success. 102.3 outside New London went right up against an established AC as Mix 102 with lousy results. We'll see! Oldies on FM is going the route beautiful music stations like WEZN did in the eighties. And no, it wasn't because Kool 96.7 played the hits to death.

See my post below, it is basically a WEBE clone. Similar to the MIX-WTKU thing in NYC...clones seldom succeed. I really have to scratch my head on this one...they spent how much on focus groups to come up with this????

Coast 96.7 may work, it's something fresh and has a good name. To me the name WEBE 108 sounds old and boring. This might be crazy but how about WEBE flips and goes Oldies to full that fold left now. Cumulus well with oldies stations. Anyone up for Sunny 107.9, but I doubt WEBE would give up in this new battle between the new Coast 96.7 and still Star 99.9. I think the only reason Coast was built is to help Star who was WEBE's battle and still is but with Coast to help.

The soccer moms have spoken!

This presentation seems similar to what 102.7 in NYC did as "Blink 102" -- and for those of us in the NYC Metro market, we know how well THAT did! (even their new logo has pink in it like Blink's!) Should be interesting to see how it does.

I would vote for a different format, too! With the AC's coming in from NYC, everything is sounding more and more alike! Everyone is putting a "Jack"-like spin on their formats...

Geez!!! Just a thought, but do you think you can give it more than 24hrs before you condemn the new station? Why so quick to judge and predict their demise? Is it so, if it does fail you can say "I told you so"? Look, I don't know why Cox decided to go this way ( and neither do any of you) and I absolutely have no idea if it will succeed or not ,but what say you give it sufficient amount of time to either sink or swim... And NO, one or two trends in NOT enough time. How about checking back next year at this time?

Agree, I am jumping the gun a bit, but just seems like the area is crowded with many of these AC formats...cutting the piece of the pie into ever smaller slices...hey if this is where the money is, then I can see the logic, but I just dont have a good feeling about this one...just my .02 cents

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree with you,it does seem that they're cutting that piece of pie just a liiiiiiiitle to small. BUT, and it's a bit BUT, if it's going to make them money (Cox), well that is the bottom line for these companies, listeners be damned. Gotta remember, this is a business. Only time will tell if they make it or not, I'd just think they deserve a fair shake before burying them....

Yup!!! They spent "a bundle"...of time, at least...probably surveying the 14-15% of the Arb's total audience, to find out what WEBE already knows...these people all like WEBE 108...or...what all these people like about WEBE 108!!! Total idiots...just like on Long Island a few years back...when a certain oldies station ,surveyed AC WALK 97.5 FM's audience in an auditorium test to find out that they liked Billy Joel...and that Motown did not test well. These fools then proceeded to drop "Motown Mondays" and added the same 3 burned to _hi_ Billy songs...and guess what? Down went the ratings! Just Geniuses I tell you!!! Geniuses!!!

It is a business and they could careless about us the listeners. In turn this is what is going to make listeners turn to Satellite radio, iPods, etc. Corporate greed is what is going to drive traditional radio into the ground. It's sad.. And I think it is inevitable.
