The New CW Network and Canadian Cable?

With Tuesday's blockbuster announcement of U.S. TV networks WB and UPN merging in September to become CW (a joint venture of CBS and WB), how will this affect cable coverage of American stations in Canada? I know that WSBK-TV (UPN) channel 38 of Boston, which will soon become an independent station again, was a superstation for many years. KTLA-TV (WB) channel 5 of Los Angeles, another longtime "superstation", will be a CW affiliate. WWOR-TV (UPN) channel 9 of Secaucus, NJ/New York City is presently NYC's UPN affiliate and was also a "superstation" for many years. Lastly, I don't know how this will affect those in Canada who may receive Superstation WGN. Besides their local feed for Chicagoland as their WB affiliate, WGN also has a generic national feed for the U.S., save for local news and Chicago Cubs baseball.
______________

Personally, there shouldn't be any changes for licensing, since they were licensed in respect to the stations themselves, and not the network they offered. I think all of these were licensed even before UPN and WB existed.

Yes, Maclean-Hunter and Rogers in London offered WSBK, WGN, and WTBS as early as 1992. WPIX and KTLA may have been approved by the CRTC later; both were not added to the cable lineup there until 1996, after The WB launched.

WKBD and KSTW will be two other CW affiliates available on cable, in their local coverage areas. It is not yet known which one of the UPN or WB affiliates in Cleveland/Akron and Buffalo will take on the CW affiliation.
______________

There is no doubt in my mind that the information above is correct, however, somewhere in the above information, I believe there was also a time prior to 1996 where WPIX and KTLA were offered, along with several others, but ONLY on the condition that the pay tv channels were also ordered. Perhaps I'm thinking more of the days when Shaw in the Scarborough part of Toronto managed cable...prior to Rogers cable taking over there...
______________

Update:

The CW network will not be widely available on basic cable in Canada (as opposed to superstations such as WPIX). KSTW will be the CW for British Columbia, and of course the Windsor area will be able to get WKBD Detroit, but otherwise, it looks like the "My" network will be more widely available. WUAB from Cleveland, WNYO from Buffalo, and WDWB from Detroit will all be airing "My" programming (they're really going to be independent stations airing a common syndicated block). In London alone there will be two "My" affiliates, WUAB (on basic) and WNYO (on digital extended basic), but no CW without purcahsing superstations.

It is still not clear if WNLO Buffalo will get the CW affiliation, or if WNGS will pick it up. The situation in Burlington/Plattsburgh is still unclear as well.

I'm hoping that the cable/satellite companies will apply to allow for some CW stations on basic cable, such as Cleveland (WBNX), Buffalo, and Detroit (WKBD, available in the Windsor/Sarnia area but not across Southwestern Ontario). London for example should get WKBD.
______________

Lin Broadcasting's WNLO 23 will indeed be Buffalo's CW affiliate (announcement made April 18th). Currently available on Rogers Digital Cable in Toronto on Ch. 178.

CW in Canada? You'll need a satellite dish

Satellite yes, cable no.

Cable companies in Canada can only import ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and PBS for US-based OTA signals.

Then why do cable companies offer WSBK (UPN) and WPIX & KTLA (WB)? Why does Cogeco in Windsor offer WMYD / WDWB (WB), WKBD (UPN) and WUAB (also UPN)?

If UPN and WB are already available on Canadian cable, there shouldn't be any trouble for CW and My Network TV to be offered.

Those channel are consider to be part of the preminum(sp.) package in Canada such as HBO, CINEMAX, SHOWTIME. WSBK, KTLA, WGN, WPIX aren't consider to be part of the basic teir for Canada.

As for the Detroit stations, they are consider to be grandfather same thing for KSTW & KVOS in Seattle/Bellingham area.
