The New Disney + Marketing Strategy

It's been in place for a couple of weeks now:

1) Bring back The Wonderful World of Disney to ABC
2) Edit all selected films to 88 minutes run time.
3) Make promos telling people they can see more of (examples so far) Moana and Thor: The Dark World by subscribing to Disney +!

Thoughts?

Seems to me there has been a similar approach taken by NBC and Peacock and CBS with All Access. They're trying to build a subscription service.

Less intentional, and more of a "bonus". There is no programming to air right now, since all production is paused, and they aren't INTENTIONALLY limiting the runtime as they are making room for normal commercials. (There are 14-16 minutes per hour under normal circumstances, depending on network). Disney is just using the opportunity to promote Disney+ as a way to see the movie uncut.

Most networks have gotten creative with what they are airing right now. Will be interesting to see how they handle the fall. Anyone know what day they ABSOLUTELY have to start filming by in order to premiere in late September?

That is determined on a case-by-case basis. Some shows were aggressively in production prior to the pandemic and are now in post production out of house, (Disney's 'The Mandalorian' as a good example) where others haven't even started shooting yet. Remember that all of these shows are provided to the networks by production companies, and there are a lot of variables. Just a few examples include: availability of talent, locations, or studio schedules, production crew availability and how to produce new episodes in this new world of distancing, masks, and trying to keep everyone safe.

In the meantime, networks are meeting with production houses daily to see what is a realistic delivery schedule(s). I've heard talk of some shows that were intended on being Fall starts, moving to a Summer or 2021 Fall.
